You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 440

“Aren’t you the one who hates people poking into your private life?”

“That’s not the same thing.”

“I need to keep a low profile right now.” Patricia kept her tone steady as the elevator climbed, explaining calmly to Oliver. “If I show up too much, I’ll just become a target. That’s why Theo’s never managed to track me down all year.” She shrugged lightly. “Honestly, the only reason I’m still in one piece is because the Newton family can’t get a read on where I am. If I acted all high-profile and let the media follow me around, I wouldn’t make it through the week.”

She kept talking as they walked out of the elevator and down the hall. Once they got to the office, she finally asked, “Does that make sense?”

Oliver had his back to her as he shrugged off his coat. “Yeah, I get it.”

Patricia lifted a brow. “But?”

He turned, perched on the edge of her desk, and pulled her in by the waist, trapping her in his arms. “Then you need to make it up to me,” he said, his voice low and playful.

Patricia’s mind went completely blank for a second. “How… exactly am I supposed to do that?”

His eyes were always so striking—deep, a little mysterious, with a hint of something foreign but not enough to make him look out of place. Patricia had always loved his eyes, especially when they were together in bed and he watched her with that intense, smoky stare, lashes low and damp, so gorgeous she could barely look away.

Just like now—he was watching her, totally silent, but saying everything with his eyes.

She hesitated, then reached out and tugged him closer by his tie. Copying what he usually did to her, she slid her fingers behind his ear and into his hair, leaning in to kiss him.

The whole room went quiet except for the soft sound of their lips meeting. Patricia closed her eyes, letting him shift from gentle to passionate in a heartbeat, pulling her deeper into the kiss.

She could taste tea on his lips—green tea, definitely, and not just a little bit.

She was just starting to lose herself in him when he nipped her lip, sharp enough to make her gasp. “Pay attention, sweetheart,” he murmured.

Patricia tried to back away, but he cupped the back of her neck and pulled her closer, deepening the kiss.

“Oliver, I—”

“Holy shit!”

The door burst open and Hector stomped in, whatever he’d meant to say turning into a shocked curse as he saw them.
