Patricia listened, glancing over at Oliver.
He’d never mentioned any of this before.
“So in the end, we became good friends with my uncle. Who would’ve thought we’d end up family too?”
“Guess that’s just fate,” Hector said, tossing Oliver a flirty wink.
His look was so over-the-top it made Patricia want to roll her eyes.
“Fate, huh? I call you big bro, call Patricia uncle—your family tree’s a total mess.”
Oliver gave him a flat stare. “Are you looking for trouble?”
Not long after, they got the grill going and started barbecuing.
Everyone was having a great time, eating and laughing.
Patricia’s phone buzzed with a message.
She glanced at the screen and quietly set her phone down.
Spring.
Brandon hated spring the most.
As soon as the rapeseed flowers bloomed, every kind of troublemaker seemed to crawl out of hiding.
He’d spent all night working a case, only dragging himself home at dawn with the stars still hanging low in the sky.
“Mr. Lantz, you’re back! There’s a package that’s been sitting at your door for days. I put it in your shoe cabinet. Don’t forget to grab it.”
“Thanks, really appreciate it.”
“No problem, you guys work so hard.”
Brandon chatted with his neighbor for a minute, opened the cabinet, grabbed the package, and headed inside.
He dropped it on the entryway table, not in any rush to open it.
Guys never seemed as eager as women to rip open packages.
He ended up napping, then went to grab his takeout at the door and finally noticed the package still sitting there by the entry.
He went to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and sliced the box open.
