You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 458

If you want to live a long life—whether it’s about managing your cravings or keeping close with family and friends—you have to learn some self-control. That’s basically the whole philosophy behind the recent fitness and dieting obsession that’s taken over Riverdale’s high society.

“Your physical report came in. It’s on the coffee table,” Tina called out as she headed upstairs without waiting for a reply.

Emerson felt his chest tighten the moment she said it.

A memory flickered through his mind—a girl clutching her hospital report, crying so hard her shoulders shook. She kept asking him what to do, over and over again, her voice breaking every time.

But now, it was his wife standing in front of him. Nearly thirty years together. They’d survived rough times, planned out their future, and now managed a company as a team. Thirty years of marriage meant that even if one of them left this world, their name would linger in every corner of the other’s life. In that moment, choosing between what he wanted and what he owed her felt impossible.

Emerson closed his eyes and let out a slow breath.

Three in the afternoon at Riverdale International Airport. The arrivals gate was packed—people everywhere, waving signs and banners, the whole scene looking more like a fan club waiting for their idol than a regular airport crowd.

Emerson and Tina stepped into the chaos, both stopping short as they took it all in.

“Who set this up?” Emerson asked, his tone sharp.

Tina looked just as confused. “Not me.”

She started to push through the crowd to figure out what was going on, but someone grabbed her wrist before she could get far.

“Wait in the car,” Emerson said, voice low.

Something about this whole scene felt off. If this was one of Patricia’s little schemes, trouble was probably around the corner.

Tina just nodded, and the two of them made their way to the parking lot.
