You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 463

Downstairs

Jackson stood there, completely thrown off by Marian’s pointed hints. Had he really turned over a new leaf lately? Was Marian starting to misunderstand him just because he’d been acting a little more civilized? Maybe he’d let his sharp tongue sit idle for too long.

Marian kept talking, but Jackson just zoned out. Finally, she lost her patience and smacked his arm. “Are you even listening to me?”

“I heard you, I heard you!” he grumbled. “I’ll Google it right now.”

Still rubbing his arm, Jackson wandered off, muttering under his breath.

Patricia came down a few minutes later and caught him leaning against the car door. He had a piece of grass between his teeth and was furiously scrolling on his phone.

“What are you so busy with?” she asked.

“I’m Googling how to insult people,” he deadpanned.

The car door slid open as slowly as Aiden’s brain on a bad day.

Patricia shot him a look, half amused, half annoyed. “You have to Google that? At this rate, life’s gonna leave you in the dust.”

Jackson just rolled his eyes. “No point explaining it to you. Let’s just go. I’m on fire today.”

Patricia drove them to the hospital. When they parked, she didn’t get out right away. She just sat there, spinning her phone between her fingers, looking like she was waiting for someone. She was so relaxed, not the least bit worried.

Half an hour later, her phone lit up. She glanced down, then casually opened the car door. Wearing heels that had to be close to four inches, she walked toward the elevator with steady, confident steps.

Ever since that incident, Joseph had been cooperating with his treatment. On the surface, he looked like he was really trying to help himself. At least he was smart enough to realize that if he didn’t get it together, the Miller family was going to end up in Nina’s hands. One daughter with no real power, one son everyone thought was a risk. Anyone could see which way the wind was blowing.
