She’s been showing off her status as the boss’s only daughter for years. You and I both know that title is more for show than anything real.
Her agent just shrugged. In a company that size, there are plenty of higher-ups looking out for her.
Amy let out a cold laugh. Patricia took down Theo like it was nothing—what’s Martin Group compared to that?
The agent eyed her. So, are you thinking of switching sides?
Not a chance. I’m taking a break. I want to go to Australia and sunbathe with kangaroos. Patricia’s running low on favors right now. If she jumps ship too fast, she’ll just be used like a tool.
And if anything goes wrong, not even her “Best Actress” crown will protect her.
If she was still a nobody, maybe she’d take the risk. Sometimes a gamble can turn your whole life around.

If she loses, she loses everything.
The car pulled up to the apartment. Amy scrolled through her phone, flicking to her favorites and opening the folder of photos from that night.
She went through them over and over, probably a dozen times, before finally turning off her phone and closing her eyes to rest.
It was a dark, restless night.
Brandon’s investigation was moving fast, but plenty of people wanted him to hit a dead end.
Lately, he’d seen all kinds of dirty tricks.
One morning, his tire blew out the moment he left the house.
Another day, someone rear-ended his car.
He even found his coffee spiked with laxatives.
He was so furious he’d stood in the middle of the police station, yelling at the top of his lungs.
July fourth. The forecast said Riverdale would hit thirty-five degrees. Just stepping outside felt like walking into an oven. Brandon stood on the street, staring at his slashed tire, too pissed to even curse.
Later that night, he and his rookie took a cab and then a bus, finally tracking down the suspect’s address—only to find the place totally deserted. Someone else had clearly gotten there before them.
