You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 521

Everyone knew none of the Padilla grandkids had really made it big yet.

He’d always figured it wasn’t something he needed to worry about.

The last thing he expected was for Patricia to end up engaged to Oliver.

Oliver.

Oliver from Pacific Capital.

He watched as the man’s silhouette slipped through the front doors. Two bodyguards appeared in the corridor, eyeing him, but neither inviting him in nor asking him to leave. So he just stood there outside, in the thick heat of a thirty-five-degree night, sweat drying on his skin, only to break out again.

Upstairs, as Oliver was heading up, Patricia was already on the phone with Jackson.

“Find out where Allen’s son is. Call the cops and tip them off—say there’s a drug party going on. Let them catch everyone in one sweep.”

Jackson got moving right away.

In the walk-in closet, Patricia grabbed some loungewear, ready to shower, only to find her way blocked at the door.

Oliver was standing there, holding out a glass of water. “Here. Have some water and cool down.”

She touched the glass, then pulled her hand back—it was hot. “Who gives someone hot water to cool off?”

“You’ve been sweating a lot. You shouldn’t drink cold stuff.”

“Then I don’t want it,” Patricia replied, her words sharp and impatient.

Oliver just laughed, reaching out to try and pull her into his arms. “Why are you taking it out on me?”

Patricia dodged him. “I’m all sweaty. Don’t touch me.”

“I’m showering first.”

That night, Allen stood in the garden at Cloud Peak and didn’t move all night, not until the sun started to rise.

Around five-thirty, Oliver came out in his pajamas and stood in front of him.

“In the six hours you spent here last night, your son was already taken in.”

Allen’s exhausted eyes snapped to him. Oliver kept going, “Last night you argued about Shane’s interests. But honestly, I don’t see you caring about Shane’s interests at all.”
