It was early evening and most of the staff were spilling out of the office building, eager to leave work behind. Brandon and his team stormed in, their arrival impossible to miss.

Tina saw them coming and felt her heart leap into her throat.

“How would I know? Read it for yourself,” Emerson said, his nerves obvious as he handed Tina his phone.

Tina read the message and felt like the sky was caving in.

Martin Group hadn’t moved their headquarters in years. Jason’s company was one of the first to settle in the city’s financial center, and as the area grew, their building became prime real estate. Moving wasn’t even on the table—owning that spot meant everything. It was more than just an office, it was a statement. A point of pride.

But now, that pride was the very reason Brandon could waltz in with his team and start poking around the top floor, turning the whole place upside down.

Nothing about the penthouse had changed—it looked exactly the same as it did years ago. Unlike those cases where evidence got lost in renovations, here, every detail was still in place. That only made it easier for the investigators to dig up dirt.

Upstairs, the police were doing their thing. Downstairs, Tina and Emerson were left sitting in uneasy silence.

Just then, Tina’s phone buzzed with a call. She glanced at it—no name, just an unknown number.

She handed the phone to Emerson. “It’s for you.”

He barely looked at the screen before rejecting the call.

Tina understood immediately—probably just another call from one of his girls on the side. She almost said something sharp, but managed to hold her tongue. Now wasn’t the time.

Turning away, she stared out the window, trying to calm herself down. “Emerson, we’re in a really bad spot right now.”
