You Looked Down on Me Once, Now You Look Up. novel Chapter 534

That night, Patricia met up with Curtis.

Their spot was a little riverside bistro, the kind of place everyone in Pacific Capital called the second cafeteria. Word was, ninety percent of the company’s business deals happened here, and only the rare out-of-town meeting ever took place somewhere else.

Curtis looked surprised when he stepped into the private room.

“Why’d you choose this place tonight?”

Patricia grinned. “Emerson’s got people tailing me lately. He can’t get in here.”

Curtis laughed. “Well, after everything that went down, he has every reason to keep an eye on you. He’s probably worried he’s about to lose his job.”

Patricia laughed too, and as they ate, their conversation drifted easily from work to small talk.

As the meal wrapped up, Patricia leaned in, her tone calm but serious. “Curtis, you know what I’m up against. Right now, you’re the only one who can really help me.”

Curtis knew exactly why she’d asked to meet. Patricia was ambitious, but she was still young. As an older friend, he could help her out, but as a businessman, he had to protect his own interests first.

He hesitated, clearly torn. She was the daughter of an old friend; he should help her. But his own future was on the line.

“Patricia, everyone’s got their own priorities. I just hope you’re thinking about what I stand to lose before you ask me for a favor.”

Patricia nodded. “Of course, Curtis.” She reached into her bag, pulled out a folder, and pushed it across the table.

“This is what I’m offering.”

Curtis opened it. The second he saw the name at the top, his eyes widened in shock. He stared at Patricia, completely stunned.

He’d wanted in on this investment since last year. But since Pacific Capital had their hands in it, he’d lost out. They took the whole thing for themselves.

And now, somehow, that same proposal was right in front of him.

Patricia caught his look and kept going. “You’ve always liked the TM Energy project. For this second round of financing, Pacific Capital’s willing to let you in.”

Curtis narrowed his eyes. “What’s your connection to Pacific Capital?”
