“You mean the guest room manager here at the hotel?”
As Patricia said this, Nina glanced around, like she half-expected Patricia to pop up nearby.
But she was nowhere in sight.
“So, what exactly does Mr. Martin want me to do?”
“Just ask him: If you need someone else’s money to buy a house, are you looking for a new dad or something?”
“That’s it?” Nina couldn’t help but be a little surprised.
Patricia just hummed in response.
Nina ended the call and asked someone to bring the guest room manager over.
They sat waiting in the hotel lobby, hanging out in the lounge area.
Nina started off with some small talk, asking about room bookings and business. Every answer was professional and right on point.
Finally, Nina changed the subject, her smile lingering. “So, I heard Mr. McKinney is getting married soon?”
Raymond looked caught off guard for a second, then nodded. “Yes.”
She raised an eyebrow. “Having trouble buying a house?”
Raymond was clearly thrown by the question. He hesitated, then said, “No, actually, I already bought one. Nina, what are you getting at?”
“If you already have a house, why are you asking other people for money?” Nina’s words were light, but there was a warning underneath. “Mr. McKinney, Riverdale isn’t that big. You should think things over before you act. You’re the guest room manager, making eighty grand plus bonuses a year. That’s more than most people in this city. You should take care of your own reputation.”
With that, Nina stood up and walked away.
Raymond scrambled to his feet, watching her leave.
In the hotel business, especially somewhere with this kind of service, manners mattered. Everything had to be just right.
Even after Nina’s figure disappeared around the corner, Raymond was still standing there, trying to wrap his head around what just happened.
It was supposed to be his day off, but he’d had to cover for someone, and there was a management inspection on top of that. Even after it was all over, he still couldn’t figure out what Nina was really getting at.
