Chapter 18
The reward listed on the slip was 15 million dollars.
Narissa laughed. It was a cold, chilling laugh.
She didn’t know her sister was so loaded.
But paying to have her investigate herself? That was just next–level stupid.
“Boss, forget everything else, your identity is like the top national secret. Even War God Bastien doesn’t have clearance to access it, let alone her.”
Octopus paused slightly before continuing, “Should I just turn her down now?”
“Why?” Narissa smirked, “Money handed to us on a silver platter–why not take it? Accept it.”
Free cash? Hell yeah. If her darling sister was handing over 15 million like candy, snatching it was basic manners.
Octopus was left speechless, thinking, ‘Damn, even her own sister’s cash isn’t safe. Guess Boss’s usual stinginess with us is nothing in comparison.‘
Muttering a few complaints under his breath, Octopus hung up and quickly replied to Cressida.
When Cressida saw her order get accepted, she nearly rolled off the bed in excitement. ‘Heh, now getting dirt on Narissa’s shady past would be a piece of cake.
‘Probably even dig up stuff like which tycoons she’s slept with and how many times–nothing’s too hidden to uncover.
‘Let’s see how she keeps playing the innocent, goody–two–shoes act in front of everyone after this.‘

That night, things got lively outside the Everton family’s villa.
The reason? The Everton family’s welcoming party for Narissa was happening the day after tomorrow. Some reporters, eager to snag exclusive scoops early, decided to camp outside the Everton family.
The moment anyone from the Everton family showed up, they’d swarm in, firing off questions like rapid–fire cannons.
Right then, at the entrance, the Everton couple had just returned home.
“Mr. Everton, is the second daughter you found really your long–lost child?”
“Before being brought home, was she really working as a cleaner abroad?”
“Rumors say she was kept as a mistress by a wealthy man before being found. Is that true? As parents, how do you feel about this?”
Sharp and unfavorable topics about Narissa kept popping up nonstop.
The Everton couple had no idea where these nasty rumors came from, but they were all aimed at smearing their daughter’s

name. As parents, they naturally couldn’t stand it.
“Everyone, please don’t spread baseless rumors. Please leave now,” Hector said sternly, shielding his wife as they headed home.
“My daughter is innocent. If you don’t have proof, don’t spout nonsense here. If you keep spewing lies, I’ll send you a lawyer’s letter and hold you accountable. Get out of my house! Now!” Amanda, being a woman, didn’t have the same commanding presence as her husband when handling the situation.
But her words still managed to intimidate the reporters somewhat.
So, they stopped asking those pointed questions and switched to inquiring about the details of the welcoming party.
With all the commotion outside, Dario naturally found out immediately.
Watching the surveillance footage from the gate that the butler brought and hearing the reporters‘ gossip, he was practically fuming.
“Told you that brat would embarrass our family the moment she came back. She’s causing trouble for the Everton family nonstop!” Dario was so angry he nearly choked.
Now, Hector and Amanda were standing before him.
Hearing his words, they quickly defended, “Dad, those reporters were just spouting nonsense. Please don’t take it seriously.”
“Exactly! Narissa isn’t that kind of person. You’ve seen how powerful the media is–they can twist lies into truth. This is all slander.”
Dario waved his hand weakly, as if drained of all energy. “Enough. I’ve already had people suppress those harmful rumors online for now. I’ll also pressure those reporters.”
“Dad, I knew you cared about Narissa, too!” Hector brightened up.
“Hmph! I just don’t want one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch!” Dario snorted coldly. “Listen–from now until the welcoming party is over, no one in the Everton family is allowed to step outside. No more trouble!”
His words were firm and resounding.
But little did he know, as he spoke, Narissa was blending into the darkness like a gecko, clinging to the villa’s backyard wall outside the study and listening to every word they said.
