Chapter 71
Chapter 71
She’d heard that when he was hunting down a criminal, he’d once said he’d rather kill ten thousand innocents than let a single criminal
get away.
‘Am I really about to end up on his kill list today?‘ Narissa thought
with a bitter smile.
But if she stopped or tried to back away now, she’d basically be telling him she was guilty as hell.
With her life hanging by a thread, Narissa’s mind raced through at least ten different escape plans in a split second.
But not a single one would let her get away
clean.
She felt that there was only one card left to play.
Meanwhile, Bastien stared straight ahead, but he kept Narissa–the Everton family’s second daughter, recently brought back from overseas in his peripheral vision the whole time.
Early that morning, he’d gotten word that a famous mercenary from overseas had gotten totally wrecked.
After seeing the report and the way to the hot spring resort.

was done, he quickly figured it was probably Fox’s handiwork, so he immediately brought his men
After asking around, he found out that Narissa–the same girl he’d been keeping an eye on–was actually on the guest list.
On top of that, the resident who got attacked had even gotten into a public argument with the Everton family before.
All the signs suggested that Narissa was looking suspicious.
That was exactly why he’d laid such a tight net around this place.
In other words, he definitely hadn’t let go of his suspicions about her.
Just as Narissa was about step into the snipers‘ line of fire, Bastien purposely slowed his pace.
An intense, predatory gleam flickered in those deep, hawk–like eyes of his.
Meanwhile, without anyone noticing, Narissa subtly shortened her stride by just a fraction, then pulled off a classic move. She tripped over her own feet in a way that looked completely natural.
She cried out as she fell backward.
This was a genuine fall. She did not leave herself with a backup plan.
If no one caught her, her head would smash hard against the floor, causing irreversible damage,
The whole point of Narissa’s little stunt was to make Bastien stop suspecting her for good.
It would put herself at risk, but as long as Bastien was quick enough, he’d be able to save her in time,
She was counting on the fact that he wasn’t so cold–blooded that he’d just stand by and watch her die.
As Narissa’s head was about to hit the floor–less than 1 inch away–Bastien still didn’t make a move.
Narissa fumed inwardly, ‘Unbelievable, he’s really just going to stand there and watch me die.
‘Once I recover from this, I’ll definitely make him pay with his life.
‘Otherwise, I’ll never be able to let this grudge go.
But just as Narissa was plotting how to make Bastien pay later, he finally sprang into action.
In the split second before her head could hit the floor, he shot out a hand, grabbed her wrist, and yanked her straight into his arms with force.

Narissa tumbled into his embrace like a light leaf drifting down.
As Bastien caught her, her weight pulled him slightly forward.
They ended up pressed close together in a half–embrace, and the instant their eyes met, it was like fireworks exploded between them.
Narissa’s breath caught, and on instinct, she clung to Bastien’s collar for balance.
But the moment Bastien realized just how compromising their position looked, he instinctively moved to put some distance between them.
Instead, the sudden pull sent both of them toppling to the floor.
In truth, Narissa had latched onto Bastien as she fell, dragging him down with her.
At the critical moment, Bastien shielded the back of Narissa’s head with his palm, twisting their bodies so she crashed right onto him. instead of the ground.
