Chapter 197

Conrad POV

After a restless night’s sleep, debating what to do with Lewana and if we were right about attacking Malik before she gave birth, I had to prepare for a guest. Murdock had called someone a government agent, and they were coming this morning.

Lewana and I had barely finished breakfast when we heard the familiar hum of an incoming helicopter. We reach the edge of the field, where several men in black suits disembark, carrying equipment. One stood out as he was the only one who didn’t seem to care about the rush of wind the rotors made.

Murdock walks up and greets him with a nod.

He takes off his sunglasses and just studies him. “So, Murdock. You haven’t managed to kill yourself or get killed yet. Good to know“.

Murdock laughs. “All you need to know is I’m calling in a favour. You owe me enough of them“.

The man replies very formally. “You know the agency owes no one favours and you have been compensated for your …….. employment. We are here because this is something that interests us”.

His eyes instantly go to Lewana as he says the last part, which instantly sets Jace off, and I start growling.

“You are here because we have a common enemy that is seeking to destroy targets on both sides. Not so you can stare or make insinuations about my pregnant mate. You can be respectful and work with us, or get the fuck out of my territory“.

My growling just seems to entertain him, and he smirks. “Understood“.

I take Lewana’s hand, and we walk inside together. I can feel my bristles rising up my neck as more and more of these strange, silent soldiers in suits fill my house.

The main jackass goes over to the liquor cabinet and peruses the selection before pouring himself glass. “I suppose I should introduce myself. I’m Agent Carter. All you need to know is that I work for

a government agency with the goal of keeping the world spinning for another day“.

I snarl at him. “Is Carter your first or last name?“.

The corner of his lips curves as if this entire thing is fascinating. “Just my name.

After taking a slow swig of his drink, he stares at me while we wait for others to enter the room. Once Liam and Arthur are in the room, I feel much more at ease, as I am not being outnumbered by the ones silently opening boxes with laptop–looking equipment.

Carter sits silently, monitoring us, so I decide to break it. The faster we can work this out, the quicker I can get him out of my house.

“What has Murdock told you about why you are here?“.

“Not much more than I already knew. You have information on Malik Sterling, and you need some assistance in dealing with a situation. Apparently, you believe there are some special circumstances which make you believe you should handle it yourself rather than us doing it for you“.

I decided the best approach here is to rip the band–aid off. “So did he tell you we are werewolves, or did you already know?“.

“We’ve heard whispers but have had no concrete confirmation“.

I nod at Liam, who is used to the drill by now. He steps forward, and Agent Carter just shakes his head. “We are not interested in your pet Labrador. We want to see what you can do“.

Liam and I instantly become livid at the insult. Neither of us needs the mind–link to know we are both thinking about killing them all and burying them in the forest.

Lewana steps in and places a hand on both of us and sends a calming wave through, as well as a mind link. “We need to know what he knows. Focus on that“.

I close my eyes and just feel her warmth flowing through me. I bring her close and kiss her gently on the head, and start to undress. If this fucker wants to see Jace. He will see him in all of his menacing glory.

Murdock at least seems to get the gravity of the situation and doesn’t make a show of it like he did with Liam.

All eyes are quickly on me, and I shift into Jace. I make sure all my Alpha energy goes into it, making his eyes glow and his stance fierce. I make sure a wave of pure pissed off energy courses throughout the room, as he snarls and snaps at the strangers on his turf.

All agents freeze and start to back away, and I can see them trying to subtly reach for weapons. Jace

just basks in the scent of fear coming from all of them. Agent Carter tries to remain stoic, but I can see the shift in his demeanor. The look in his eyes where he is calculating his options and if he will have to fight or if he can make it to the door in time to run.

A calming wave starts to run through me as I feel a hand run through my fur. Lewana is grounding me, but at the same time, she is showing her strength.

One soldier to my left draws his gun and starts to point it at me, suddenly feeling braver knowing he

has a weapon.

Lewana retrieves the blade from her leg before he has even aimed it fully and throws it. The blade goes through the sleeve, pinning his arm to the wall behind him, making him drop the gun with a loud clank.

She stares him straight in the eye and speaks calmly with her glowing golden gaze, never leaving him. “Remember, you are all guests in our home, and you are currently surrounded by 2000 wolves devoted to us. He might look the most menacing one, but I can assure you, I am your biggest threat

here“.

Damn, she is sexy when she gets like this. Arthur and Liam show her nothing but respect while Murdock makes puppy eyes at her.

All the agents seem to understand the gravity of the situation more than before, and Agent Carter seems to have lost his cocky edge. Now the meeting can begin.
