Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 207

Chapter 207

They all instantly step into action. I stand around, confused, and feel completely useless.

I walk around the wolves, looking at them more clearly in the daylight. They are skin and bones. It looks like they were only fed enough to keep them going. That, or they didn’t have enough food. The whipping wounds were obvious on their backs, and the smell of infection was so strong it was nauseating.

I look at all the broken faces looking around with confusion and panic. Not sure what is going on or what to do next. I don’t recognize any of the faces though.

That’s when I hear it. Leroy. LEROY.

I frantically look around, trying to find the voice yelling my name, when I’m nearly knocked over by someone jumping into my arms and breaks down sobbing.

You came for us, Alpha. You found us.

I pull back and look at the face of the person in my arms. He is a shell of his former self, but I would recognize those eyes anywhere. His father’s eyes. My Beta’s eyes.

Max. Oh Goddess Max.

I hold him tightly and cry as I hold him. He is my Beta’s youngest son. I always thought he would be mated with my Darlina. We lost him in a raid two years ago during his first battle at 17. He begged us to be a part of it, and when we lost him, it nearly destroyed his father with guilt for allowing him.

My Alpha instincts kick in, and I howl. I howl while holding on tightly to Max.

I start to hear numerous voices call out and come over to us.

Alpha has found us.

Alpha came for us. He’s taking us home.

More and more wolves come forward and break down at my feet. I recognize all of them. They are from my pack. I need to get them home. I know the plan is to get as many out as fast as possible, and I want to take my pack home.

I call one of the soldiers over and tell them to clear these ones as soon as possible. My pack lands are only 3 hours by flight from here, and we can fit them all in a small plane.

42 wolves. 42 missing from my pack, all found. Once they are cleared to fly and transport is organised, we all leave. From finding them to being on the plane is less than two hours.

When we land in my territory, my Beta and his mate are waiting. I didn’t tell him why, as I knew he would believe on the phone.

Max is the first off the plane. Everyone freezes for a split second when they see each other. His mother is the first to start running towards him. Max leaps down the stairs and into his mother’s arms as she sobs uncontrollably. His father is right behind her and holds them both.

The other pack members start to come forward and have their own joyful reunion. My Beta comes up to me and

embraces me as well.

You brought my son home. Your home. Tonight we celebrate.

My mind instantly goes back to the forest we just escaped. I know I can’t.
