Chapter 208

Lewana POV

I started to ronse with a heavy feeling in all of my limbs. I don’t recall the last time I felt this comfortable, though. It’s almost as if I’m in a pillow den. A familiar voice starts to speak, and I try to focus on it.

“Lewana, You Ok? Please wake up“.

I recognize Liam’s voice immediately and try to force my eyes open despite feeling exhausted. I try to sit up despite everything in my body telling me to stay in my comfy pillow den.

“Hey, Liam. What happened?“.

He released a big sigh. A breath he was probably holding since I went down. “You just collapsed, Lewana. After we escaped, Queen Azalea said you were just exhausted and your life energy was too depleted“.

Crap. That sounds serious. I ask Serena, as she normally keeps track of all this. “What do you think, girl?“.

“She was right. We have more energy than most, but it got to the point I had to borrow some energy from the pups. They both dropped to about 80% whereas normally I keep them at 100%. As soon as the Faes and Phoenix’s took over, I shut everything non–essential down for the pups“.

“Right choice as usual“. I just smile, and I can feel Serena’s pride grow within me. I move my hands to my belly and thank the pups for looking after mummy.

Liam is already rummaging in a nearby bag and pulls out some food for me. He is taking it out of the wrapper and handing it to me when Azalea looks at it is disgusted.

“Why are you giving her a brick to eat?“.

Liam gets instantly defensive. “It’s a high–calorie military ration protein bar. It will help get some calories and nutrients into her“.

Azalea is mortified. “The best food you brought with you is a brick“.

I come to Liam’s defense, and he seems to be taking this attack personally. Almost like she is implying that he can’t look after me.

“It’s fine, Azalea. It’s the same as getting store–bought concentrated fertilizer because you don’t have enough homemade compost“.

She seemed to consider my words, but I can tell she still doesn’t like the concept.

“Well, Florian and Rose are moving the fairy protective boundaries around the campsite and working with river sprites, so you have protection overnight. While they are doing that, I’m going to get real food for you“.

She storms out of my tent on a mission after making her declaration. I just roll my eyes and look back at Liam.

“How long was I out?“.

He looks at his watch. “Well, it is 1pm, so about seven hours“.

I get up, stretch, and redo my hair. I know I must look horrendous, and I would kill for a shower, but this will have to do for now.

Liam pulls out the report and starts talking.

“It seems there was no proper tracking system for the pack, so 4000 was just a visual guess or Malik rounding up to inflate his numbers. We counted 3287 total. Hunters have killed a total of 465, who had black auras and were corrupted by shadows. All bodies have been collected, and Phoenix’s have set fire to them in that quarry, and are monitoring that the blaze doesn’t spread to the forest. As expected, a lot of the wolves have stated coming from Northern and Eastern Pack raids. We have been in contact with all Alpha, and they have confirmed on video call and by name. A lot of them were closed and they have sent their own vehicles to collect them, so 984 have already left in the last few hours with another 486 expected to be by sundown“.

I look through the crowd to find the face I need, but he is standing next to someone I don’t recognize. “Leroy. Who’s that?“.

He starts stuttering nervously. “This is my Beta Robert. His son was here, so when I took him home, he wanted to come and help. I brought 40 warriors and supplies to help out as well“.

Robert steps forward and bows deeply. “I have heard many great things about Luna Queen, and for returning my son home, I owe you a .

I snap at him. “DO NOT finish that sentence. We have all just rescued a lot of wolves and returned them home, and have just started a war. I will not accept any life debts, as we have enough to deal with. Your gratitude and help are more than enough“.

I take a deep breath and think for a minute before addressing Leroy again. “I need you to do a full survey of the north. As the current council representative, I need to know how many packs are in that zone, who has wolves here, who is in the alliance, who will now join our side, and who is potentially on his side. I’m assuming you trust your Beta as Conrad trusts Liam“.

He nods vigorously. “Yes. With my life“.

“Great. Robert. You have just been promoted to the head of the council. I need you to coordinate and assist Leroy with this information, and then start to work on the Eastern pack. Notify the West and South, but they would have been harder to raid, so we won’t know for sure on that side“.
