Balance of Light and Shadow (By Chandrea) novel Chapter 219

Chapter 219

Connor POV

It’s been a week since we were attacked in the forest. Since the Alpha King died, our Luna Queen brought him back, and I said goodbye forever to Stella.

I never expected to survive. I expected to leave my beautiful Stella an orphan. I knew the hunters would take her in, but they would have run from the pack when the Alpha King was declared dead, meaning she would have been lost in the world.

I didn’t stay in the hospital the night we returned. I had to go home and see her. I was expecting to see the house in chaos and my terrified daughter hiding. Instead, the house was immaculate, my daughter sleeping softly in her bed, and Kimberly in my bed.

I was covered in mud, blood, and sweat, but seeing her sleeping broke me. I woke her up, and she held me as tears of relief flowed out.

I learned later that Kimberly had basically moved in when I left at Stella’s insistence. They continued with her normal routine, and Kimberly kept her calm while I was gone. She worked closely with the hunters to support them and became involved in strategy meetings to help the pack and its families.

That’s when I knew.

I decided to take Kimberly on a walk around the forest and just talk about things. Anything I could think of, as we walked towards the lake.

She looks at me with that amazing sparkle in her eye, but a concerned look on her face.

You OK, Connor? You keep asking me questions like you’re interrogating me.

Of course, she noticed.

Yeah, I’m fine, baby. Just thinking about last week.

She takes my hand. You want to talk about any of it?.

I take a deep breath.

Yeah. I was thinking about how amazing you were. You kept Stella happy. You worked with the hunters as family. You worked with the pack as allies. You trusted I would return, and I have full faith that if I didn’t, you would have been there for Stella. I know you have only been in my life for 7 months, but for the first time in a long time, I can picture coming home to someone other than Stella.

I look at her. Her eyes are now glassy with tears as I get down on one knee and open the small box I had in my pocket.

Kimberly, will you marry me?.

YES. She throws her arms around my neck, and I nearly drop the ring trying to catch her. We both end up clumsily on the ground and laughing in each other’s arms.

While lying there, I place the ring on her finger, and we kiss on the shore as the sun starts to set.

We race back to the house to find Stella waiting on our doorstep, apparently refusing to stay with her babysitter, but promised to stay in

view. She knew what I was doing.

I nod yes as we approach the door, and she squeals before running to Kimberly.

Kimberly starts crying again, and Stella does too. I hold both my girls in a protective embrace, and we all head inside to celebrate as a new family.

The next morning, Kimberly insisted on bringing me to breakfast in Conrad’s kitchen. I was hesitant at first, as I have never been invited there.

As soon as we walk into the kitchen, Conrad and Liam’s faces drop, and they both stand.

Conrad is the first to talk. Connor, what’s happening? Are we under attack?.

I start stuttering. I knew this was a bad idea.

Kimberly intervenes and just holds up her left hand so the 2ct diamond on her finger sparkles in the morning light.

Michelle is the first to start screaming. HOLY FUCKING SHIT. YOU’RE ENGAGED.

Everyone in the kitchen has now spun to see the commotion, and I go bright red.

The kitchen descends into chaos as all the girls start squealing, jumping, and hugging each other.

Willow starts talking rapidly. I knew you would be the first one to get engaged.

Kimberly protests. I think Lewana counts as the first.

Michelle flaps her hands at Kimberly. Oh, please. She doesn’t have a ring yet, and Conrad technically hasn’t asked her. So far, she is the Luna Queen and mother to his pups. Not wife.

Lewana starts growling at her. Maybe Serena. We don’t need a stupid shiny rock. We have his pups in our belly and our mark on his neck.

Definitely Serena. Even Conrad picked up on the hint of jealousy in her voice.

Both Conrad and Liam come over to congratulate me, and Mary is already setting a place setting at the table.

I try to leave, but Liam basically pushes me down in the seat as all the girls are completely oblivious to what is going on around them.

Michelle is starting to fold fabric napkins. I always thought you would suit a train that folded more like this at the back, so it is still simple and elegant but still has flair to it.

Kimberly is excited, clapping. We can look at the picture later.

I proposed 12 hours ago, and she is already designing a wedding dress. Hunters normally get married in battle gear to symbolise the sight together.
