Chapter 223
Lewana POV
57
The bastard who kidnapped me came to my fucking territory to leave me a tree of dead rabbits. The hell is he ever leaving my sight again?
I instruct the warriors to pick him up and bring him back. I need answers. They load him, not gently, onto a portable stretcher, and we race him back to the medical centre. I can barely hide my contempt towards this pathetic being as I instruct the medics to work on him.
“Make sure you get blood to work out the extent of his illness, and find that infection before you start the antibiotics“.
I keep my hands instinctively on my growing pups as if my hands are keeping them safe. Conrad is just as heightened as I am, and looking around the room as if a threat could jump out at any moment.
One of the guards walks in with silver chains and starts attaching them to the bed.
I growl at him. “What the hell are you doing?“.
He freezes and doesn’t answer. Conrad does. “This traitor is not staying alive unless he is in silver“.
I snap at him. “If he is in silver, he won’t heal. If he doesn’t heal, we won’t get answers, and I can’t beat the shit out of him later“.
Conrad growls back. “Thought you promised I could kill him“.
A devilish smile crosses my lips. “Of course you can. Doesn’t mean I don’t want to get at least a few kicks in first“.
I can see Conrad trying to calm Jace just as I am trying to calm Serena.
He lets out a huff. “Fine. Leather straps until he is well enough for silver“.
The medical teams work for about an hour. I watch them but don’t help. I instruct them to give him a bag of my plasma on reserve to make him heal faster, as we need him to wake up. It’s only once the adrenaline wears off and Serena is calmer that I notice how bad
Donovan is.
He has lost a significant amount of weight. His clothes are far too loose, and his face is gaunt under the bruising. His eye is practically swollen shut, and an X–ray showed that both ulnas in his arms have been repeatedly broken. Obvious signs of defensive injuries, trying to protect himself from a beating.
“Goddess have mercy“. I turn and see Connor in the doorway. Liam came in behind him and just froze.
I speak just above a whisper. “Connor. What’s his colour?“.
He looks at me before trying to focus on the task at hand, and then turns to Donovan.
“That makes no sense“.
This piques Conrad’s and my attention.

Chapter 223
Conrad speaks first. “What doesn’t make sense?“.
“He’s only slightly blue, most likely due to his condition. Apart from that, he’s normal“.

This enrages Conrad instantly, “You’re telling me this fucker kidnapped my mate on his own accord, without shadow possession or Alpha
orders“.
Connor replies nervously. “Looks that way“.
My heart sinks as I clutch my belly. It would make sense if the shadows or Malik made him, but for someone else to have their own agenda.
Conrad feels this instantly and is by my side, holding me.
He gently rubs my growing bump while holding my waist close to him. I could sense his fear and hear the slight tremble in his voice.
“Moonlight. I know the pregnancy wasn’t planned…..“.
“Stop“. I had to interrupt him. I didn’t want him to finish the sentence, as I knew what he was going to say, and I wasn’t going to let him feel guilty about it for a second.
“Shadow. Do I wish we could have waited for a year and gotten everything settled first? Yes. Do I resent that I am pregnant currently? Not for a second. These pups were always going to happen. The timeline just got sped up a bit, so neither of us is going to be upset about that. I can forgive Donovan for the hormone boost. But selling them and kidnapping me. That’s why he will suffer“.
He leans in and kisses me, and I can feel the relief washing over him. We keep our foreheads together for a moment while we stay in the moment together. Neither of us asked for this to go this way, but we are both glad it did.
“He’s stable, Luna Queen, and seems to be responding to the treatment“.
We both part and stare at the medic. We know we need a plan. Conrad takes over.
“Two soldiers, fully armed, are in this room at all times. Two more stationed outside the door. The second his eyes open, he is to be placed in silver before your Luna Queen is even near the building“.
They nod and understand.
He wraps his arm around me and we head straight to the kitchen. I know it is lunch time and we need to eat, but I am way too anxious.
Mary makes some snacks, and Jace purrs while Conrad holds me close to calm us down, just so we can get some food into me.
The rest of the day, we spend like zombies together. Just going through the motions, taking nothing in, and moving from room to room, waiting for the inevitable call.
Nothing feels right. Everyone in the pack is on edge. I can feel it in my bones. A deep, unsettling pit in my stomach that is growing by the
second.
The sun starts to set, and we haven’t heard anything. Liam is put on overnight duty as we try to rest, but sleep evades us.
