Lionel shot her a sideways glance. "What's got you so jumpy today?"
Juliette ignored his teasing and pressed on, "Why are there rumors about them? I mean Beasley and Rosamund!"
Others might not know about Willow and Beasley's marriage, but she did.
Others didn't know that STAR was actually Willow—but she knew that too!
And now Beasley was taking his own wife's novel and letting his supposed childhood sweetheart star in the movie adaptation—what the hell kind of stunt was that?
Lionel assumed she was just worried for her close friend. He didn't think much of it and grinned, "It's all about that movie, *Sudden Dawn*. Beasley invested a hundred million in it, and then the paparazzi dug up that he and Rosamund grew up together. People's imaginations just took off from there."
"But honestly? I'd say it's probably all for publicity. Nothing real going on. The real show was you and Beasley clinging to each other that time—there's footage! You couldn't deny it if you tried!"
Lionel's analysis eased the weight pressing on Juliette's chest, if only a little.
To her, Rosamund didn't even come close to Willow. But in other people's eyes—especially the Windsors—Rosamund could easily be the perfect daughter-in-law. After all, their families were equally matched, and there was that whole childhood connection. If anything ever did happen between Rosamund and Beasley, it would be a real threat to Willow's marriage.
By this point, Juliette had completely lost her appetite.
That old trick—eating to ward off sadness—never really worked for her anyway.
When something hurt, it still hurt. But she'd always been the rational type. She couldn't control who she was drawn to, but at least she could control her actions—she'd never let herself sink so low as to make the same old mistakes.
"Lionel." Juliette hardly ever used his name so seriously.
He straightened instinctively. "What is it?"
"This is the last time I'm giving you advice about your love life." Her voice was calm but firm. Some things just needed to be said face to face.
Lionel seemed to actually consider it for a moment, then nodded. "Alright."
"But…" He grinned again, a spark of mischief in his eyes. "This time, you have to go all in. Help me win her over, or you're not getting your thank-you gift."
Juliette picked up her fork. "Well, I'd better get my fill with this meal, then!"
Lionel couldn't help but laugh, shaking his head as he slid his entire portion of steak onto her plate. "Here, all yours!"
The warmth in his voice was subtle but unmistakable—a kind of casual fondness he probably didn't even realize was there.
Juliette froze for half a second, then drew a quiet breath.
Enough. She really should avoid being alone with this guy from now on.
