Boss, Your Ex-Wife is Unreachable Now! novel Chapter 276

Ryan?

What was he doing grocery shopping at this hour? Didn’t he have work?

Willow, however, had no intention of greeting him. She quickly changed direction, aiming to check out on the other side of the store.

But fate had other plans—they both ended up in the produce section, just two aisles apart. The moment Willow turned to leave, Ryan spotted her.

With his long stride, he caught up in no time. “Miss Sheffield!”

He was already behind her—there was no escape. Willow stopped, turned around, and managed a polite smile. “Officer Chase? What a coincidence.”

“Yeah, it is.” Ryan couldn’t help but glance at her overflowing shopping cart: vegetables, meat, fruit, snacks—she had practically cleaned out the place.

He asked, “What brings you downtown to shop?”

He knew where she lived, and this was the city center—a solid hour’s drive from her neighborhood.

Then again, downtown did offer more options. It wasn’t too odd that she’d come here for groceries. What puzzled him was that she’d come alone and was buying so much.

He honestly doubted she could carry it all by herself.

Willow explained, “A friend of mine is in the hospital nearby. I came to visit, and figured I’d pick up some things on the way back.”

Ryan looked surprised. “The hospital around the corner? I’m actually heading there too, to visit someone.”

So, he was using his lunch break to visit a patient.

“Are you here to pick up fruit for your visit, Officer Chase?” Willow asked.

“Yeah, I’m putting together a fruit basket,” Ryan replied.

A colleague of his was in the hospital after getting hurt on the job, and Ryan was the designated visitor today.

He hadn’t expected to run into Willow here, of all places.

She couldn’t just tell Ryan it was a hunch.

Cops needed evidence, and she didn’t have any.

So, she let it go.

She shook her head. “Not for now, no. But thank you for your concern, Officer Chase.”

Ryan nodded. “Glad to hear it.”

He glanced at her cart again. “Need a hand? That’s a lot to carry.”

Willow smiled and declined, “No need, thanks. I drove, so I’ll just wheel the cart out to my car. It’s easy.”

“Alright,” Ryan didn’t insist. The two exchanged goodbyes, and Willow pushed her cart toward the checkout while Ryan went back to picking out his fruit basket—both of them heading off to visit the hospital.
