From the kitchen, I fetched a new silver spoon, ran it through the sterilizer reserved for our Rogue Pack manor, washed it clean, and handed it to Leslic.
I sighed, looking at her dazed expression.
Just moments ago, her powerful alpha pheromones had faltered in shock. Even now, though. steady again, a chill still lingered in the air.
“I couldn’t believe it either,” I said, pulling out the chair opposite and leaning back comfortably. “The story exploded on the pack networks too fast. A scandal this big, outside the
entertainment sphere, wouldn’t hit the trending list unless the platform had verified the man’s identity. I happen to know some higher–ups there. I asked around.”
Her beautiful eyes narrowed sharply, flashing with that familiar, cold edge unique to our Rogue Pack bloodline.
“Why?” she asked, her voice carrying the faintest tremor.
“Why?” I chuckled, finding her innocence strangely endearing. “What else? For people or for money. What other reason could there be?”
The truth was, I’d never put much stock in Adler.
He belonged to Gold Empire, with roots outside our northern lands. And over on the Eastern Continent, his personal history was locked down tight. Even my networks couldn’t dig up anything concrete.
So if some dirty past of his came crawling out now, I wasn’t surprised.
In our world, how many alphas wear the mask of refinement while wallowing in filth behind the
scenes?
Power and position always breed the ugliest desires.
Adler approaching Leslie with an agenda – that much was certain.
Thankfully, I could see she hadn’t truly given her heart to him yet.
He’d helped her, and for that, Rogue Pack owed him gratitude. But gratitude didn’t mean ignoring his skeletons. Those were two separate things. I knew the difference.
Still, judging by Leslie’s expression, she hadn’t climbed out of the shock.

I stepped closer, flicked her forehead with a knuckle. Not too hard, just enough to snap back.
her
“Don’t be foolish. Adler’s an outsider. However high he stands in the East, here in the North his ties are weak. That’s why the platform dared to let this blow up without hesitation. Someone’s fanning the flames behind it, all for attention and traffic. Understand?”
My words seemed to bring her back.
She lifted the tablet again, sharp eyes sweeping the screen – no longer stunned, but analyzing.
I knew that look. That damned, frighteningly calm mind of hers was already cutting through the mess.
Half true, half false.
That was my judgment.
In fact, the chance of truth was higher. After all, I’d met little Eren myself. His age matched the rumors about the illegitimate child almost exactly…
Leslie frowned, then raised her head to me. “Carl, could you…”
She didn’t need to finish. I knew what she meant.
