Charlotte’s eyes were unwavering. “Call me petty if you want, but I’ll never go back to the way things were.”
Her words rang out with such finality that Darren was left speechless, the air between them thick with disbelief.
She meant it—she really was done with Noah.
Otherwise, she never would have walked away from such a perfect chance to make things right with her son.
Darren couldn’t wrap his head around it. The woman who once would have given up everything for Noah—how could she turn so cold?
If she could abandon her own flesh and blood, what did that say about her feelings for him? Was she really ready to throw away over a decade together, just like that?
Just then, Bradley stepped forward, his voice gentle. “Mr. Harrington, sometimes you have to look to the future.”
Darren shot him a meaningful look. “Mr. Fairchild, shouldn’t you be calling your N-LINK marketing director right about now?”
Sensing the tension, Bradley pulled out his phone and made the call. Within moments, a crease appeared between his brows, marring his usually calm expression.
Charlotte felt her heart clench. “Mr. Fairchild, what’s happened?”
“The Harrington Group just undercut us on price and snatched a multi-billion order right out from under N-LINK.”
Bradley’s explanation made Charlotte’s nerves tighten even more. If Bradley rethought their arrangement because of Darren’s move, would she still get access to Ryan’s chip data?
Before she could voice her concern, Bradley turned to her with a reassuring smile. “No need to worry, Ms. Lee. If Mr. Harrington is that desperate for a billion-dollar deal, he can have it.”
Charlotte’s eyes widened at his words.
Darren’s gaze darkened. “Mr. Fairchild, is it really worth giving up a fortune for a woman who won’t even acknowledge her own child?”
Bradley just laughed quietly. “Didn’t you just throw away a fortune for her yourself, Mr. Harrington? Color me surprised—the legendary Mr. Harrington, titan of the business world, still so hung up on his ex-wife.”
“I care about her?” Darren’s cold eyes swept over Charlotte’s composed, unyielding face. The memory of how she’d turned her back on Noah flashed through his mind, and he clenched his jaw.
“You’re overthinking, Mr. Fairchild. Whatever I throw away, it’s not for anyone else to pick up.”
