Who dared to throw the entire World Jade Expo into chaos? Who had the nerve to stand in her way as she claimed the title of head of the Griffith family? Gladys’ eyes flashed with cold fury. Today, she swore, she’d see this woman blinded for good.
Gladys straightened, voice crisp. “Though your accusations are pure fabrication, I accept the wager. Host, begin the appraisal with crystal number one!”
At her command, the host, Avalor, raised his voice, “Miss, please take note—this is crystal number one!”
Charlotte replied in fluent Avalor, barely a beat later, “Clarity grade, SI2.”
Gladys didn’t so much as blink. She didn’t believe for a second that anyone could appraise a crystal from thirty feet away—Charlotte’s answer had to be wrong.
But the host’s expression changed instantly.
Before falsely claiming that crystal number nine was the purest, he’d already scanned every stone with his equipment. There was no need to rescan number one; he knew perfectly well the girl in the wheelchair had answered correctly!
Gladys, still haughty, barked, “Host, don’t bother with the theatrics. Just scan the first crystal and announce the real clarity grade—so this young lady can see for herself how wrong she is!”
The host wiped sweat from his brow. “Are you… are you sure?”
Gladys frowned, sensing something was off with his demeanor.
At that moment, Mr. Todd Griffith’s deep voice cut through the tension. “Proceed.”
With the old patriarch’s order, the host had no choice. “Yes, sir.”
He braced himself, picked up the scanner, and swept it over the first crystal. Peering at the screen, he announced, voice barely steady, “Crystal number one: clarity grade SI… two.”
A collective gasp echoed through the hall.
“She… she got it right?!”
“Impossible! She’s thirty feet away—just took one look and nailed the grade? Even Ms. Eunice Griffith, with all her talent, couldn’t pull that off!”
Every eye in the room locked onto Charlotte. This time, skepticism was edged with awe.
