Charlotte cast a cool, indifferent glance at Darren, accepted the teacup he offered, and took a measured sip before setting it down.
Her voice rang out, calm and unhurried, every word clear as glass. “Number three crystal: IF grade.”
The host barely glanced at the spectrometer before blurting out, “Correct!”
Three times in a row, from ten meters away, Charlotte called out the answer almost instantly—every one absolutely accurate.
Across the room, Gladys’ lips trembled. She shot the host a desperate look, trying to signal him to halt the rest of the appraisal...
But Charlotte didn’t bother waiting for him. She rattled off the remaining grades in quick succession. “Number four, VVS2. Number five, I2. Number six, IF. Number seven, IF. Number eight, flawless—FL, completely without blemish. Number nine, IF. Number ten, IF. So, the most flawless among them is number eight, not number nine!”
The host was speechless.
All color drained from Gladys’ face. She looked utterly defeated.
Damn it, she hadn’t managed to stop this disaster.
Mr. Todd Griffith gave a curt order. “Scan them.”
The host hurried to sweep each crystal with the device. After each beep, he announced a grade—every single one matching Charlotte’s verdict, down to the last detail.
It was irrefutable proof: Gladys had faked her appraisals.
A wave of contempt and outrage swept toward Gladys. Eyes narrowed, lips curled—the room was united against her.
She tried to protest, but before she could say a word, Mr. Todd Griffith’s voice cut through the uproar. “From this day forward, Gladys is stripped of her position as head of the family and her right of inheritance.”
For a fleeting moment, Gladys felt her strength desert her, as if her bones had turned to water.
But the weakness lasted only an instant. She drew herself up, eyes flashing with defiance.
“Old man, have you lost your mind? She’s clearly colluded with someone on the inside—this is nothing but a scheme to sabotage the World Gem Expo!”
She spun on her heel and snapped at her bodyguards. “What are you waiting for? Throw that troublemaker out!”
But the men, usually quick to obey, didn’t move an inch. Instead, with a single look from Mr. Todd Griffith, they strode forward and seized Gladys by the arms.
