From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 135

Ethan Carter frowned. “You sure this isn’t some kind of setup?”

Olivia Bennett didn’t expect him to be so suspicious. She nodded quickly, confident. “It’s not. Trust me.”

At most, Lavinia Bennett just wanted to show off in front of her, hoping to get a rise out of her.

But we’re talking about a million dollars here.

Olivia wasn’t about to give Lavinia the satisfaction. She wasn’t going to get upset—she’d be happier than ever.

Let Lavinia think she’s getting it all, when actually, she ends up with nothing.

Olivia’s certainty was almost contagious, but Ethan still hesitated. That much money? It was hard to just let it go.

He glanced at her, still not convinced. “Really?”

Olivia nodded again, bobbing her head like a pecking chick. “Cross my heart, hope to die.”

Ethan’s eyes softened a little. Olivia grinned. “Come on, I’m in my twenties, not a kid. Do you really think I’d fall for some scam? Or do you just think I’m totally unreliable?”

Ethan didn’t say if he believed her or not. He just replied, “If there’s a problem, you tell me. Okay?”

Olivia straightened up, mock-serious, and said clearly, “Yes, Mr. Carter.”

Bennett Enterprises.

Lavinia Bennett pushed open Daniel Gill’s office door just as he was shutting down his laptop.

He looked up at the sound, and as soon as he saw her, his tense expression relaxed, his eyes softening. “What are you doing here?”

“Came to pick you up,” Lavinia said, draping her arm over his shoulder. “What? Not happy to see me?”

“Just surprised, that’s all.”

Lavinia glanced at his now-black computer screen. “All done for the day?”

“All done.”

“Then let’s go grab dinner.” Lavinia let out a little sigh. “We’ve both been running around like crazy. We deserve a break.”

Daniel stood up. “Let’s go.”

But Lavinia stayed put, lips pressed together.
