From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 136

Daniel Gill stared in disbelief. “That soon?”

He’d been running on fumes lately, barely keeping up with all the Carter Group headaches. If he wasn’t dashing from meeting to meeting, he was buried in paperwork, his head spinning by the end of every day.

He’d planned to find a moment to talk to Olivia Bennett—maybe smooth things over about turning down the wedding photoshoot. But now, out of nowhere, the shoot was already upon him.

Tomorrow, in fact. No time left to back out.

Olivia was a total ghost these days, except for the rare moments she was at her studio. He had no idea where she was living now, and it was like she’d vanished off the face of the earth.

So, there was really no chance left to refuse.

“What do you mean, ‘that soon’?” Lavinia Bennett huffed, shooting him a playful but exasperated look. “Do you have any idea how long I’ve been waiting for this? If you hadn’t been so swamped with Carter Group stuff, I’d have moved the date up even sooner.”

The sooner the shoot was done, the less chance there was for anything to go wrong.

But, of course, it had landed right in the middle of chaos.

Daniel’s lips pressed into a thin line, his face clouded with worry, eyes distant—clearly miles away.

Lavinia’s brows drew together and she scooted closer, reaching for his hand. “What’s up? You look like you really don’t want to do this.”

Her tone was light but tinged with disappointment.

Snapping out of it, Daniel squeezed her hand back, pushing the other thoughts aside for now.

“I’m just surprised, is all,” he said quietly, glancing down. “Feels like you only told me about this a few days ago.”

“You’re totally losing track of time with all that Carter Group nonsense,” Lavinia teased, batting her eyes and giving his hand a gentle pat. “Honestly, with the wedding shoot coming up, you can finally take a day or two off. Things are winding down, so stop orbiting around Carter Group for once. I’ve never seen anyone who loves work as much as you do. If you had your way, you’d just sleep at the office.”

Daniel felt like someone had scrambled his brain, but he managed a weak, “Alright.”

Lavinia grinned, her lips quirking up. “So, I’ll just crash at your place tonight, yeah? That way we can head out together in the morning. Saves you a trip.”
