He pulled away from her lips and murmured softly, “Alright, stop thinking about it. Today’s our engagement photo shoot—let’s just have fun, okay?”

With him being so gentle, even if Lavinia Bennett was still annoyed deep down, on the surface she just rolled her eyes.

“Fine. For your sake, I’ll let it go. You’re right—Olivia’s married now, so from now on, we’ll keep to our own sides and not mess with each other.”

But the word “married” hit Daniel Gill like a punch to the gut.

He froze for a second, then slipped back into the driver’s seat, trying to play it cool.

At the studio.

Once the two had left, Nannie Bruce was still fuming, her cheeks red with anger.

Olivia Bennett tugged gently at her hand. “Nannie.”

Nannie turned, her face softening with concern. “You okay?”

“I’m fine,” Olivia reassured her with a smile. “It’s you I’m worried about—don’t let them get you so worked up.”

Nannie scoffed. “Please! I’m not the one getting sick over this. I hope I gave them both a headache! Did you see Lavinia’s face? She looked like a bowl of mashed potatoes mixed with all the wrong colors. Couldn’t even get a word out. I actually enjoyed it.”

Olivia had noticed. If Daniel hadn’t been there, Lavinia probably would’ve snapped, but she’d kept it together, taking all of Nannie’s jabs without so much as a comeback.

It wasn’t often Olivia saw Lavinia so rattled.

“Come on, let’s go sit down,” Olivia said, tugging her inside.

Nannie nodded. “Yes, please, I’m dying of thirst after yelling at them!”

Olivia glanced at Helen Adams, who was staring at Nannie like she’d just spotted a unicorn.

Olivia tapped the counter. “Earth to Helen? You okay?”

Helen snapped out of it, grinning sheepishly. “Nannie is amazing! I’ve never seen anything like it.”

She’d met Nannie a few times before and always thought she was super sweet. Who knew she could stand her ground like that?

Helen had only ever dared to curse people out in her head, while Nannie did it right to their faces.

Nannie beamed, clearly proud. “Right? I think I’m pretty awesome too.”
