From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 150

“They’re so shameless! Honestly, I went way too easy on them. Should’ve just marched right up and slapped every single one of them in the face.”

She ground her teeth together, practically seething with regret.

Olivia Bennett sat down next to her. “Come on, Nannie, don’t let them ruin your mood. I handled it myself.”

But Nannie Bruce only got more riled up, her eyes full of concern as she looked at Olivia. “Let me guess, the second I’m out of sight, they go full-on mean girls on you, huh? Tell me, what did they do? I swear, next time I see them, they’re each getting ten slaps and a good kick in the shins for good measure.”

“Unbelievable. Especially that Daniel Gill. I can’t believe I ever thought he was a decent guy, someone you could actually build a life with.”

Nannie’s voice wavered as she spoke, and her eyes started to fill with tears.

Olivia looked at her, a gentle warmth in her chest. “Lavinia Bennett just dropped a cool million for a half-hour wedding shoot with me. Honestly? I came out on top.”

Nannie blinked, caught off guard by Olivia’s breezy attitude. She studied Olivia’s face, biting her lip before asking, “Olivia, have you really moved on?”

Olivia met her gaze, calm and clear. “They’re practically married now. If I were still hung up on them, I’d have to be the world’s biggest idiot. They’re basically strangers to me at this point.”

Without warning, Nannie pulled her in for a hug, resting her head on Olivia’s shoulder, her eyes turning red. “I’m so happy for you,” she said, voice thick with emotion.

Olivia felt tears prick at her own eyes—not out of sadness, but relief. She was grateful, really, that someone like Nannie was always there for her.

Both of them had busy lives, hardly ever managed to see each other, but they’d always be a safe harbor for one another.

She blinked the tears away, hugging Nannie back with a soft laugh. “Yeah, I’m happy too.”

Nannie wiped her eyes and finally let go, taking in Olivia’s calm, steady expression. Suddenly, the tears she’d just managed to stop threatened to come back all over again.

Sometimes, wounds only heal when you finally let them breathe.
