From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 170

"Alright, alright," Naomi Barton laughed heartily, taking the gift with a big smile.

She set it down on the table, then pulled out an envelope—already prepared and stuffed with crisp bills—and handed it to Olivia Bennett. "Here you go, Olivia. Since you brought me a present, it’s only fair Naomi has a little something for you, too."

Olivia Bennett blinked, caught completely off guard by the generous envelope.

Wait, weren’t they just here for a party? Since when did people hand out envelopes of cash at birthday parties?

She instinctively glanced at Adelina Lane, who gave her a reassuring nod.

"Thank you, Naomi," Olivia said as she took the envelope, a bit bewildered.

"Don’t be so formal with me," Naomi replied warmly, her eyes soft. "Come on, everyone—let’s sit down and chat. There’s no need to stand around."

Adelina led Olivia over to the big, comfy sofa.

Naomi poured them both a steaming cup of tea. "You know, you two kept Ethan’s wedding under wraps like it was the CIA or something. If Carlson hadn’t let it slip, I’d still be in the dark!"

Adelina shrugged, smiling. "Well, they didn’t have a big wedding or anything, so there wasn’t much to announce. Plus, Olivia’s pregnant, and you know how it is—better to keep things quiet until it’s a sure thing."

Naomi’s face lit up with envy and delight. She sighed, "Ethan really doesn’t mess around. No news for ages, and then boom—he’s miles ahead of everyone else."

Adelina’s grin was impossible to hide, though she played it cool. "Guess it’s just fate."

"Oh, cut it out," Naomi shot back, grinning. "You bagged yourself a daughter-in-law and now you’re playing the fate card? Please! I remember how you used to be."

Adelina put on an innocent face. "I’ve always been like this!"

Naomi snorted. "If only I’d recorded you back then!"
