Olivia Bennett yanked her hand free from his grip.

Daniel Gill seemed out of it for a second, so her sudden pull actually worked. But she barely took a step before he caught her again, this time grabbing her left wrist.

Fury bubbled up in Olivia at his stubbornness. She slapped him, hard, across the face. “Don’t touch me.”

A bright red handprint bloomed on his cheek, but Daniel just stood there, unfazed, his eyes fixed on her stomach.

Uneasy, Olivia wrapped both arms protectively around her belly. “What do you want?” she snapped. “If you lay a finger on me, I swear—I’ll fight you with everything I’ve got.”

She didn’t even need to say more. The truth was already written all over her face.

Daniel’s vision swam for a second. His voice was barely a whisper. “Why?”

His gaze was so intense it made Olivia’s skin crawl. She tried to pry his fingers off, one by one, with all her strength.

Suddenly, something seemed to click for Daniel. He tightened his grip, pushing Olivia up against the wall, his eyes wild. “It’s about that night, isn’t it? What you said at the diner—you were telling the truth. You’re really pregnant. You didn’t lie to me.”

Olivia stared back, defiant. “Yeah, and so what? I’m pregnant. If you hurt me, the Carter family—and Ethan Carter himself—will make sure you pay.”

So that’s why she was mixed up with Ethan Carter.

So that’s how she ended up married to him out of the blue.

Everything made sense now. The reason for all this chaos was growing inside her—and Daniel was tangled up in it, whether he liked it or not.
