From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 212

Carmen Gates furrowed her brow, looking a little dazed. “That guy from earlier… wasn’t he a bit strange?”

“Strange?” Lavinia Bennett glanced over her shoulder, catching only the man’s back as he disappeared into the crowd. “Do you know him?”

“No,” Carmen shook her head. “That’s what’s weird. I’ve never seen him before, and yet… he felt so familiar.”

Lavinia snorted. “Maybe you crossed paths at some party once. Or maybe he looks like someone we know. If you’re sure you don’t know him, there’s nothing odd about it. Honestly, you’ve let Olivia Bennett get you all frazzled.”

Carmen took a deep breath and rubbed her temples. “Probably. Forget it, let’s just go back. My head is killing me.”

Lavinia sighed dramatically, shaking her head. “This is supposed to be a good day! You should be happy, but look at you. If you keep this up, Olivia will have a field day laughing at us.”

Carmen shot her a helpless look. “I’m not as young as you anymore, Lavinia. I’ve been on edge for days, and now that it’s over, I just feel… drained. When you were talking to that witch, my head was spinning so much I barely heard a word.”

“Alright, alright. Let’s go home and get some rest. And this time, promise me you won’t deal with my dad again.” Lavinia rolled her eyes, clearly annoyed. “He’s been acting like a lunatic lately. I can’t wait to see how he tries to blame me next time.”

Carmen patted her hand. “Your dad just wants what’s best for Carter & Sons, sweetheart. It’ll all be yours one day, for better or worse. That’s the only reason I even bother being civil to that witch.”

Lavinia hooked her arm through her mother’s affectionately. “You’re the best, Mom.”

“You’re my only daughter. If I don’t look out for you, who will?” Carmen smiled wryly. “But you need to start learning about Carter & Sons too. Daniel can help, but he’s just support, understand?”

“I know, I know. I’m learning, aren’t I? Once I’m married, I’ll join Carter & Sons officially,” Lavinia replied.

Carmen sighed. “You never wanted to learn before, and your dad let you get away with it. Thank goodness for Daniel—he’s capable, and he’ll help you. Otherwise, what would you do?”
