From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 214

Olivia Bennett got it now—this was how Beatty showed she liked someone.

She shook her head with a gentle smile. “It’s fine, really.”

Helen Adams realized she’d misunderstood, but she didn’t regret stepping in. She didn’t know Beatty well, after all, and if something had happened, it would have been impossible to fix.

“Sorry about that,” Helen said, rubbing the back of her neck. “Didn’t mean to overreact.”

“She was just worried about me,” Olivia explained quickly, glancing at Beatty. “That’s all.”

Damian Franklin’s eyes softened. “It’s on us, really.”

He paused, then asked, “So… you’re a mom, right?”

Olivia nodded. “Yeah. Guess that’s why I got a little jumpy.”

“Totally understandable.” Damian gave her a sympathetic look, then turned to Beatty. “You can’t do that, honey. You scared Olivia.”

“I… I didn’t mean to. I like Olivia,” Beatty blurted out, her voice trembling. She looked at Olivia, anxious and lost, like a child caught with her hand in the cookie jar.

“It’s okay.” Olivia smiled warmly at her.

There was something pure and innocent in Beatty’s eyes—it reminded Olivia of her own kid.

After a moment, Olivia leaned closer. “It’s alright. You can touch my face if you want.”

Beatty’s blue eyes went wide. Hesitantly, she reached out, her hand still cold, and gently pressed her palm to Olivia’s cheek.

She relaxed, and the tension from before melted away.

They just stared at each other for a moment, Beatty’s gaze clear and searching, Olivia’s soft and reassuring. It was like two kids on a playground, locked in a silent understanding.

Helen let out an amused sigh. “Olivia, you two have the same eyes. No wonder she likes you.”

Olivia took a closer look at Beatty and realized she was right—they did have the same shade of green.

Damian grinned. “Yeah, you really do.”
