From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 229

She tucked the lower half of her face under the comforter, and a tiny, muffled voice floated out, “You’re the silly one.”

“Hiding under the blanket just to call me names?” Ethan Carter chuckled.

Olivia Bennett’s wide eyes darted around, the only part of her visible. “When did I call you names?”

Ethan grinned, shaking his head. “Didn’t just call me dumb?”

Olivia huffed, “Well, you called me dumb first!”

“Was my tone even mean?”

Olivia didn’t care. “Doesn’t matter. You started it.”

She realized how childish she sounded and rolled her eyes at herself.

How did she end up bickering with Ethan Carter first thing in the morning, over nothing at all? They were like a couple of kids fighting over the last cookie on the playground—everything turned into a contest.

Ethan’s eyes sparkled with amusement, soft and adoring.

He reached out, trying to tug the comforter down from her face, but she was way ahead of him, gripping the blanket with both hands.

He paused for half a second before simply wrapping an arm around her waist and lifting her up a bit, blanket and all.

Her face popped out, cheeks flushed pink.

Her hair was a mess, falling in tangled waves around her face. A few strands clung to her cheeks, and she looked both sleepy and adorable.

“Getting enough air in there?” Ethan brushed her bangs to the side, gentle as if handling something rare and precious.

Olivia’s tone softened in an instant. “I’m fine.”

The weather was cool and cozy—she could’ve stayed bundled up all day.

Ethan couldn’t resist planting a kiss on her cheek. “You hungry yet?”

She thought for a second. “Actually, yeah, a little. What time is it?”

“Just past ten.”

She stared at him, dumbfounded. “It’s that late? Why didn’t you wake me up?”

She’d have guessed it was barely nine.
