From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 310

Sunlight slipped through the crack in the curtains, poking its way into the bedroom and chasing off the last bit of gloom.

Olivia Bennett’s brow twitched as she slowly dragged herself into wakefulness, her eyelids fluttering open with effort.

Ethan Carter had been watching her the whole time. When he saw her finally stir, he leaned over and brushed her forehead with a feather-light kiss, barely there before he pulled back.

“Morning, darling,” he murmured.

Olivia was still half-asleep, all tangled hair and confusion. She heard his voice and replied on autopilot, “Morning.”

Her voice was scratchy, almost husky, and Ethan chuckled, giving her cheek a gentle squeeze before continuing, “Happy birthday.”

Those two words were like a shot of espresso. Olivia’s eyes snapped open, clear and wide now, all traces of sleep gone in an instant.

“My birthday?”

Ethan’s voice dropped, soft and teasing, “Knew you’d forget.”

Honestly, she’d been so wrapped up lately in figuring out how to make Mason Bennett pay that she’d barely spared a single thought for her own birthday.

Olivia racked her brain for a second, and then—right, today really was her birthday.

A grin broke out across her face, surprise and delight lighting up her features. “Thank you, hubby.”

Ethan ruffled her hair, his eyes warm as he gazed at her. “Another year older.”

Olivia blinked, a laugh bubbling out of her. “You sound like a dad lamenting his kid growing up.”

She actually thought it, and before she could stop herself, she said it out loud.

Ethan’s dark eyes crinkled with amusement, his voice even softer, “Maybe, but it’s the same thing.”
