A few celebratory emojis followed the message.
Ethan Carter grinned. “I’m the first one to wish you a happy birthday.”
Olivia Bennett looked at him, surprised. “So that’s why you brought it up as soon as you walked in. Did you see Nannie’s message?”
Ethan just shrugged. “I woke up last night and grabbed the wrong phone.”
A smile crept into Olivia’s eyes, but she couldn't help but ask, “So you only remembered it was my birthday after you saw her message?”
Ethan playfully knocked her on the head. “Come on, you think I’d forget your birthday? But I figured once she said something, you’d know. If I waited, you might start overthinking things, and I didn’t want that.”
Olivia picked up on his hint right away. “So you had a surprise planned and were waiting for the right moment to tell me?”
Ethan didn’t bother hiding it. “Yeah.”
Olivia planted a quick kiss on his cheek. “Just hearing it from you first thing in the morning is already a surprise. I’m really happy.”
She was so easy to please that Ethan just wanted to give her the world.
He kissed her back. “From now on, I’ll always be the first to wish you happy birthday.”
Olivia beamed. “Deal!”
Ethan ruffled her hair, watching as she started typing out a reply to Nannie Bruce. “I’m gonna get up now.”
“Okay.”
Ethan tossed back the covers and got out of bed.
Olivia opened her phone and replied to Nannie on WhatsApp.
[Thanks, Nannie!]
Barely two seconds later, Nannie replied.
[No need to thank me, sweetie. Happy 24th birthday!]
