From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 312

The moment she finished speaking, Olivia Bennett blinked, then couldn’t help but burst out laughing. “Why does everyone care so much about being the first?”

“Hey, I already feel bad enough for not being there to celebrate with you. The least I could do was send you the first happy birthday!” Nannie Bruce declared, then paused, a hint of mischief in her voice. “Wait, who else is this obsessed? I timed my message perfectly—no way anyone beat me to it, right?”

Olivia shot a glance at the bathroom door—still firmly shut.

She turned back to Nannie on her phone screen. “Well, if we’re talking about when the messages were sent, yours was first. But if we’re talking about who told me first, Ethan Carter actually beat you to it.”

Nannie fell silent for a second. “So he snagged the top spot, huh?”

If Olivia wasn’t pregnant and going to bed earlier these days, she probably would’ve seen all the messages too.

Smiling, Olivia let her in on the real story. “He actually saw your message in the middle of the night. The moment he woke up, he turned to me and said happy birthday. Otherwise, he’d have waited till later.”

Nannie immediately caught on. “So, Mr. Carter had a surprise planned?”

Olivia nodded. “Yep.”

Nannie grinned, tilting her head. “So I messed up his plan?”

“Not really,” Olivia said softly. “I still don’t know what his surprise is—I’m kind of excited to find out.”

The happiness in Olivia’s face was obvious, even through a phone screen. Nannie felt her heart melt a little.

“Well, I won’t pry then.” Nannie’s red lips curled into a smile. “I’m just glad you have Mr. Carter with you for your birthday. At least you’re not all alone since I can’t be there.”

“Then I guess I’ll let him have the honor of the first birthday wish. I won’t fight him on it.”

Olivia laughed. “You’re both first in my book.”

Nannie teased, “Such a people-pleaser.”

Olivia couldn’t help but giggle.

Just then, someone called for Nannie in the background.

Olivia smiled. “Alright, go do your thing. I need to get up anyway. Don’t worry about me, I’ll wait till you’re back.”

“Okay. Take care of yourself, get lots of rest, and last but not least—happy birthday, Liv!”

“Thanks, Nannie.”
