From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 341

Ethan Carter carefully wiped Carey clean before reaching for a fresh diaper. He moved step by step, each one deliberate and cautious, like he was defusing a bomb instead of just changing a baby.

From her spot on the bed, Olivia Bennett watched him, only able to see the defined muscles in his arms and the focused, almost severe set of his jaw.

She smirked, about to tease him—*Is it really that hard?*—but Carey made a whimpering noise before she could get the words out. Olivia had a sinking feeling, and sure enough, the next second, Carey let out a wail that filled the whole room, cutting Olivia off mid-sentence.

Ethan stared down at his howling daughter, sweat starting to bead on his forehead. Olivia frowned and began to push back the light hospital blanket, but Ethan saw her out of the corner of his eye and quickly stopped her.

“Don’t get up, Liv. I’m almost done here. Let her cry for a minute—it’s okay, I’ll calm her down in a sec.”

He sped up, finally finishing the change, then gathered Carey into his arms and gently patted her back. Compared to just yesterday, he already looked like a pro.

“Hey, shh, it’s okay, sweetheart. Daddy’s still learning, but next time I’ll be faster, promise. Won’t let you get so upset again.”

His soothing worked; Carey’s cries gradually faded to little hiccups and then silence.

Olivia watched him comfort their daughter, her expression softening until her eyes shimmered. She didn’t say anything, just let the quiet settle between them.

Once Carey was fully calmed and still, Olivia finally broke the silence. “Bring her over here. Let me see.”

Ethan came closer, whispering, “I think she's asleep.”

He placed Carey gently beside Olivia, and when he saw the baby didn’t even stir, he finally let out a long, relieved sigh.

Olivia looked at the tiny, peaceful face and couldn’t help but laugh softly. She poked Carey’s chubby cheek with a finger and whispered, “Cry, then sleep. Wake up, then cry again. You’re a real handful, aren’t you? Look at your dad—he’s totally wiped out.”

She raised her eyes to Ethan, who stood at the foot of the bed looking helpless.

He’d never realized how tough taking care of a baby could be. There were so many things he had no clue how to do.

“I’ll clean up,” he said.

“Okay,” Olivia replied, settling back against the pillows, watching him as he gathered up wipes, diapers, and tossed things in the trash.
