From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 343

It was best not to argue with him, really.

The only reason he’d enjoyed a few easy years was because he’d ridden on Shirley Carter’s coattails. All the relatives and friends in their circle treated him like royalty, hoping for a slice of that good fortune.

Now, he was living the good life—lazy mornings, backyard BBQs, watching football on Sundays. The last thing he wanted was to piss off Ethan Carter and go back to those days when he had to grovel for every scrap of respect.

Whatever Catherine Blair had done, he didn’t care.

He had only one idea: apologize.

Apologize until Ethan Carter dropped it.

The three of them sat there, each lost in their own thoughts, faces tense. Ethan Carter didn’t even raise an eyebrow.

He stayed silent, and Addie David’s nerves started to unravel. Tiny beads of sweat broke out on her forehead. Her knees felt like Jell-O.

Just when she thought she couldn’t take it anymore, Ethan Carter finally spoke, his voice cool as ice. “How old?”

He was looking at Catherine now.

Tears shimmered in Catherine’s eyes as she choked out the answer, her voice barely more than a whisper. “Twenty-three.”

Ethan let out a cold laugh, the sound sharp and mocking.

He didn’t need to say a word; it stung like a slap across all three of their faces.

Addie David fumbled for words, her face pale. She tugged at Catherine’s sleeve. “Come on, apologize to Mr. Carter.”

Catherine’s lips trembled, and she looked utterly defeated.

Abbott Green shot her a glare, his voice harsh. “Do it now. If Mr. Carter doesn’t forgive you today, don’t bother calling me your father. You made the mistake—now own up to it.”

Her parents were both pushing her, Ethan Carter sat there cold as stone.

Catherine’s tears finally spilled over.
