From a Wrong Turn to Mr. Right novel Chapter 65

“Not tired at all,” Olivia Bennett shook her head, smiling. “Everyone here’s been looking out for me. Most days, all I have to do is snap some photos for the clients. I only got busier today because someone called in sick.”

“Well, that’s good to hear.”

Adelina Lane wasn’t the overbearing, old-school type of mother-in-law who believed a pregnant woman should just stay home for nine months knitting baby booties. She’d been a little emotional earlier, but that was just the shock of the news.

Now that she could see Olivia was fine, Adelina wasn’t exactly calm yet, but at least she’d mellowed out a bit.

The photoshoot was wrapped up, and they’d chatted enough for one visit. Staying longer would just make things awkward.

Not wanting to overwhelm Olivia, Adelina stood up and said her goodbyes. “I’ll get out of your hair now. Take care of yourself and get plenty of rest, okay? It’s your first pregnancy—if anything feels off or you just have questions, call me. I’m not busy these days, so you’re not bothering me at all.”

Olivia stood up politely, not wanting to argue about how to say goodbye. “Thank you. Drive safe.”

Adelina waved her hand. “No, no, you stay put. Sit down and rest.”

Maybe it was the way she said it, but Olivia just blinked in surprise and sat back down like a well-trained puppy.

Adelina cracked a gentle smile. “You know, I really do like you. And I love your style—the way you do makeup, the photos you take. I’ll be coming by often, so I hope you won’t get sick of me.”

She sounded so genuine, her face so soft and kind, that Olivia felt a surprising warmth settle in her chest. She nodded. “You’re welcome anytime.”

Adelina smiled wider, finally heading out.

Helen Adams watched Adelina leave and plopped down next to Olivia, chin propped in her hand. “Olivia, that Mrs. Lane sure seems to have a special fondness for you.”

Helen knew Adelina’s age, but she still felt weird calling her “Susan” to her face, so she just went along with Olivia’s way of addressing her.

Olivia’s eyebrows twitched a little. So it wasn’t just her imagination.

“Looked like you two were really hitting it off. I’m telling you, you’ve got that magnetic personality.”

Forget it.

She knew Ethan. If she called, he’d just give her some vague, noncommittal answer.

They’d be seeing each other in a few days anyway.

If he wanted to keep secrets, fine. She’d just act like she didn’t know anything and catch him off guard.

Back at the studio, Bonnie and Davina grabbed their purses and headed out after a long day.

Only Helen and Olivia were left, tidying up.

Helen had just finished packing up when a man pushed open the studio door.

She looked up, her greeting frozen on her lips, eyes going wide.
