Chapter 111 Refused to Speak

All at once, Athena remembered what Harriet had said—that Zaden had cut ties with Beverly.
Without thinking, she blurted out, “If things are rough with your family right now, you could stay here for a bit, keep Teri company
…
”
The second the words slipped out, Athena wished she could disappear into the floor.
“No! I didn’t mean it like that … I just thought, if you don’t have anywhere else to go forget it!”
By the end, she wanted to smack herself.
Why do I always speak before my brain catches up?
…
Ugh,
That wasn’t what I meant at all. I was only thinking that if he was having issues at home and needed somewhere to crash, he could stay here for a while.
But how could I have forgotten who he is?
With his wealth and status, why on earth would he need a place to stay?
What I said sounded more like I was inviting him to move in–like I’d already taken in his daughter and now wanted to take him in too.
Zaden gave a low chuckle.
His lips curved slowly, a trace of amusement flickering in his eyes and brows. Clearly, Athena had managed to entertain him.
Watching that smile spread across his face, Athena felt her chest tighten, as if she’d been struck. For a moment, she lost herself in his impossible good looks.
He’s really cute when he smiles.
No! What am I even thinking?
Her mind spun out of control, her whole body burning with embarrassment, as if she didn’t belong in the room at all.
In the end, all she could do was let out an awkward laugh.
“Sorry, that came out wrong. Just ignore me.”
Zaden lowered his gaze and murmured, “I could.”

What? Could what?
Athena froze, her mouth falling open, completely blindsided by his answer.
“Tomorrow, I’ll have my assistant bring my things over.”
Wait. Is he serious?
Her shocked look seemed to amuse him. In a good mood, he teased, “It’s not the first time, anyway. You know–us living together.”
Athena almost choked.
When have we ever lived together?
Then it hit her. Back when the tabloids trashed me and reporters hounded me, I hid out at Zaden’s place for a while. That must be what he meant!
And he really does look serious, not like he’s hinting at anything improper.
Maybe he just wants to be close to Teri. I’m probably overthinking it.
After bracing herself, Athena finally managed to calm down.
She said, “The main bedroom’s a little bigger. Teri and I will take that one, and you can have the guest room next door. Is that okay?”
“Sure.” Zaden nodded.
With that decided, there wasn’t much else to say. Still feeling uneasy, Athena cleared her throat. “Um… I’ll get Teri ready for her bath.”
Her hand was still injured, but Teri was older now.
And since Zaden was a man, it didn’t feel right for him to do it.
“No need to rush. You haven’t eaten yet, have you? Eat first.” Zaden gestured toward the takeout on the table–the one Athena had ordered earlier.
“Uh… alright.”
He opened the containers for her. One glance at the plain, simple dishes made him frown slightly, but he didn’t say anything.
Athena didn’t notice. She picked up her utensils and began eating.

She remembered that after her last injury, she’d gotten used to using her left hand. She wasn’t all that clumsy anymore and managed just fine.
After a few bites, it suddenly occurred to her to ask, “Did you and Teri already cat? Should I order something for you too?”
