From Betrayal to Brilliance Her Rise to a New Life novel Chapter 202

Chapter 202 Monday Crossroads

Was it possible they wouldn’t be able to get it done today?

Zaden didn’t object. He simply said, Alright. Let’s head over and check.

With that, he stood up and grabbed his jacket.

Athena was surprised by how readily he agreed. She thought he’d been avoiding her on purpose, but now those doubts faded. Maybe she’d been overthinking it.

Zaden didn’t seem like the kind of guy who would play games like that.

If only Zaden knew what she was thinking, he’d probably feel a little guilty.

Because that was exactly what he’d been doing.

They headed together to the underground parking garage.

Zaden didn’t ask Tommy to drive, instead, he got behind the wheel himself.

Athena figured maybe something like a divorce felt too embarrassing for him to involve anyone else. He probably didn’t want anyone to know.

She didn’t dwell on it. She just got in the passenger seat.

The car moved smoothly along the road, but since it was rush hour, traffic was worse than usual. Athena stared out the window, her brows knitting together.

They’d already been cutting it close, would they still make it in time?

After a slow crawl through traffic, they finally arrived at the courthouse.

You can wait in the car. Looks like it might be closed. I’ll go check,” Athena said.

She got out and walked quickly to the entrance, but as soon as she reached the doors, she was told the office had already closed.

Of course. Closed.

Disappointment spread across her face.

And to make matters worse, it was Friday. If they couldn’t get it done today, they’d have to wait two more days, and who knew if they could even get an appointment after that?

She’d worked hard to get that appointment slot.

Lately, the courthouse had been strange, plenty of slots for other services, but divorce appointments were nearly impossible to book.

Athena got back into the car. Zaden glanced at her and asked, So? How’d it go?

She sighed. Ugh, turns out it’s already closed. If we’d gotten here just five minutes earlier, we might’ve made it. Now we have to wait until Monday or the next available slot. She muttered, annoyed, What a waste of my appointment that number was tough to get.

Zaden’s eyes flickered slightly. His voice was low and calm. It’s fine. We’ll come back another time.

Though in truth, he wasn’t planning on letting Athena get that chance again.

Hearing his words, Athena felt less frustrated.

He was right, Zaden wasn’t going anywhere. They could always come back next time.

Teri’s back at kindergarten. Want to come with me to pick her up? She’ll be really happy to see you,Zaden said casually.

Athena’s face lit up, and she nodded immediately.

Of course! I don’t have anything else to do anyway. Let’s go pick her up.”

A faint smile tugged at the corner of Zaden’s lips.

He turned the steering wheel and pulled away from the courthouse.

The car moved smoothly down the road. Athena had been frustrated earlier about missing their chance to finalize things, but now that she was about to see Teri, her mood had lifted again.

That whole situation with Teri had been a major misunderstanding.

Now that everything was back to normal and she could attend kindergarten again, Athena was genuinely happy. It made everythingincluding her marriage to Zadenfeel a little more worth it.

Still, things between them were stuck in this awkward inbetween. Not together, not apart, and she didn’t really know what to make of it.

As Athena drifted off in thought, Zaden’s deep voice suddenly broke the silence.

Athena, when are you planning to start working at the hospital again?

Hm?Athena snapped out of her thoughts, suddenly remembering. Back when they took Teri to summer camp, she had already passed the interview at the hospital and was preparing to start work.
