Chapter 146 Into the Snow
:
As long as no one came looking for trouble, the 66th floor would stay safe.
The second reason was that Caroline could control Raven. After all, she was his owner.
And Tyler had the strength and skills they needed to handle danger outside.

So that was how they decided it. Kay still felt a little guilty. “I’ll just stay home to guard the place. I’m not really doing much, so I can take a smaller share.”
“It’s fine. If Raven were staying to guard the house, he’d get the same share too. Mr. Lowland and I already agreed on that.”
And that was that–the plan for the night was set.
Since Caroline had slept well the night before, she wasn’t tired today.
She took out some spring water from her storage space, brewed herself a cup of tea, and grabbed two books to read by the skylight, enjoying the quiet afternoon.
By 8 p.m., she had fed the two little ones and checked her storage space again. Everything looked normal today–no weird surprises, just the usual supplies.
To get ready for the night’s mission, Caroline went to her room and took a short nap. her alarm went off at midnight, she got up and changed into her clothes.
When
First, she put on her thermal suit, then layered a professional–grade windbreaker over it, sealing the cuffs and hems tight. It was light but warm.
She had bought this windbreaker before the apocalypse–it was the kind used for South Pole expeditions. It was basically top–level gear for extreme cold.
Normally, you’d still have to wear heavy layers underneath, but with the thermal suit, that wasn’t necessary.
Inside her snow boots, she wore mismatched red–and–green socks from her storage space. The colors clashed horribly, but they were incredibly warm.
When she was ready to leave, Caroline turned around and saw Jet staring at her with sad, pitiful eyes.
“Ugh, you’re going out again without me, huh?”

Jet’s voice was full of frustration and dramatic whining that made Caroline’s skin crawl.
“Jet, staying home to guard the place is a very important job!” she coaxed.
But Jet still looked sulky.

Eventually, the big parrot managed to trick Caroline into giving him some more pet treats. Only then did he calm down, flutter his wings, and settle down to sleep.
When Caroline stepped outside, Tyler and Kay were already waiting.
She glanced at Tyler and noticed he was wearing a windbreaker too, but under it, he had on a short mink coat, which made him look a little bulky.
Behind him, he was dragging an inflatable rescue boat.
It wasn’t just any boat, though—it had been modified. There was even a little roof on top.
Caroline could tell from the precise welding that Tyler had customized it himself.
She looked at her own unmodified inflatable boat and raised an eyebrow. This man was definitely detail–oriented.
Then Tyler went back inside and came out with a few panels, tying them to the sides of Caroline’s boat with ropes.
With the panels up, her boat now had a much larger storage area for carrying supplies.
They were bringing two boats so they could haul back as much food as possible.
Caroline was impressed.
The two of them and Raven headed downstairs.
Before leaving, Caroline reminded Kay, “No matter what happens, no matter who it is, don’t open the door. It’s best not to answer at all. Just pretend all three of us are home.”
Kay promised she’d be careful.
Once they reached a hidden spot, they tied the two inflatable boats together and looped ropes over them, fastening the other end securely around Raven.
“Raven, go!”
Caroline snapped the rope, and Raven took off like a rocket.
