Caroline was getting desperate. Jet wouldn’t stop crying, and the bleeding wouldn’t stop either. Finally, she dug into her storage space and pulled out a plate of parrot snacks, holding them near Jet’s beak.

The problem was, Jet was sitting on the couch, and the height didn’t match.

So Caroline used Raven’s head as a makeshift table.

She balanced the plate right on his head.

Caroline seized the opportunity when Jet leaned sideways to nibble. She quickly grabbed a pair of tweezers, reached into his injured wing, and pulled the bullet out in one quick motion.

“It hurts! Oh my god, Raven! Human! It hurts so bad!” Jet wailed.

But once the bullet was out, he whimpered a few more times, then settled down.

Of course, the snacks on Raven’s head were all gone by then.

Caroline wiped the sweat from her forehead. She hurriedly poured some spring water over Jet’s wound.

Before her eyes, the wound began to close, skin knitting together in seconds.

Only the feathers hadn’t fully grown back yet.

“Try it now. How does it feel?” she asked, stroking his head.

Jet hopped off her lap, wings drooping. He walked a few steps, then looked up pitifully at his humanity.

“Still hurts a little,” he said.

Caroline figured the muscles were still sore. The surface healed, but the tissue inside needed time.

She told him not to worry, that a warm healing spring bath later would help.

But Jet didn’t answer. He just gave her a sad, pitiful look.

Then, to her surprise, Raven started staring at her too. He even stood up.

“Raven says he’s hungry,” Jet replied.

Before Caroline could react, Raven threw him a sharp glare.

Then he lifted one paw and pointed right at Jet, like he was tattling. The hungry one is this guy, not me!

But just as he finished pointing, Raven’s stomach let out a loud, pitiful growl. He froze for a moment, clearly betrayed by his own body.

Jet knew he was injured, and Raven wouldn’t dare to touch him. The parrot puffed out his chest and said quickly, “Raven’s the hungry one! I’ll just have some snacks!”

But his bright, spinning eyes told the truth. They were practically saying, Human, didn’t I help today? Heroes deserve extra food, right?

Caroline rolled her eyes. “Oh, come on, you two! You both just want something to eat.”

Every time those two were begging for food, her head started to hurt.

Especially Raven–every time he used his powers, his stomach turned into a black hole. No matter how much he ate, it was never enough.

Still, Jet needed to recover, and Raven was probably starving too. Caroline didn’t say a word. She just set up two pots–one big, one small–one for each of them.

The moment she served the food, both of them gobbled it down like there was no tomorrow.

While they were eating, Caroline suddenly heard someone knocking on the door. She went to open it and found Tyler standing there. The hallway behind him was spotless, completely cleaned up.

Earlier, after Francis had men remove the bodies outside, the door, floor, and walls had been splattered with blood.

Caroline had planned to clean everything once Jet’s wounds were treated.

But now, everything looked squeaky clean.

Even the walls had been repainted.
