Chapter 228 Elephant Hide Armor
Something amazing might start growing here.
Farm One was totally silent. Nothing looked different yet, so whatever was happening probably
still needed time.
After checking it out, Caroline walked over to Farm Two.
Jasper was already lying flat on the roof, clearly bored out of his mind.
From where she stood, Caroline could see his round belly wobbling in the sunlight–soft and extra chubby.
Maybe she was imagining it, but he seemed a little chunkier lately. Those two pouches on his belly were sagging even more than usual.
Probably because of that jewelry set Kay gave him.
This time, Caroline hadn’t planted veggies or fruit in Farm Two. Instead, she filled the whole thing with timothy hay and alfalfa hay.
Those were the favorites of all the grass–eating animals in the livestock area.
What truly caught Caroline off guard was the field of purple that came into view the moment she neared Farm Two.
“Whoa, no way! The alfalfa hay is blooming!”
Each blossom was huge–about the size of her palm.
The alfalfa hay was over six feet tall, thick, and full of life. There was enough of it to feed all the animals for a long time.
With a thought, she harvested every bit of alfalfa and timothy hay, then gathered a handful of the purple flowers with a satisfied grin.
She remembered they tasted amazing mixed with cornmeal and steamed, and even better when stir–fried with meat.
She’d eaten them once as a kid, back when her grandmother was still alive. She decided she’d make some again soon to relive that memory.
Once Farm Two was cleared out, Caroline walked to the livestock area, refilled the feeders, and
1/3
checked what she’d gotten from the animals.
There was canned rabbit meat, fresh milk from cows and goats, llama wool, and other stuff.
Her guinea pig group had grown to several dozen by now.
She used to keep them as pets in her previous life. Those tiny squeaky furballs would lose it every time the fridge door opened.
But now?
She silently tapped the button labeled “Roasted Guinea Pig Canned Meat.”
Meat was still meat, no matter how small.
In a blink, eight guinea pigs disappeared, replaced by eight cans of roasted guinea pig meat in
storage.
She’d heard that people in other countries and in Skyridge ate them. Supposedly, they were delicious.
She wondered if Raven might like it.
When Caroline checked the random weekly animal section, she noticed an elephant that
looked kind of down.
It was an Aesiran elephant, not especially big for its kind.
Maybe it was sad and lonely after being alone for so long.
Caroline took out some pumpkins and apples to feed it.
The elephant instantly brightened up, waving its trunk with excitement.
After chomping on the food, it even stomped its feet a few times, looking full of life again.
Caroline smiled, gave it another apple, and gently petted its trunk. With the world in ruins, she couldn’t help but wonder if elephants even existed out there anymore. Maybe this was the last
one she’d ever see.
Just then, a familiar “ding” rang in her car.
