Chapter 50 The JunkEater Machine

Caroline had thought about what would happen if her neighbors decided to scavenge for supplies later.

First of all, this was the doomsday. The rule was simple: first come, first served. Only the strong survived. Anyone too softhearted would end up being someone else’s prey.

Second, with the acid rain coming, everything left behind would soon rot away. So it’s better for her to take it all now than let it go

to waste.

After clearing out the entire floor, Caroline and Raven stepped back into the storage space.

Even after working all night, she wasn’t the least bit tired. The excitement kept her wide awake.

She had basically emptied a twelvestory building!

The moment Caroline stepped into her storage space, she froze. It had upgraded again! Her exhaustion vanished instantly.

The place looked brighter, cleaner, and more advancedand floating right in front of her was a small glowing screen with the words. NovaSpace 4.0.

Caroline was thrilled. Wait! Does this mean I finally get an instruction manual? She almost cried from joy.

She quickly tapped the screen.

The display flickered and revealed three icons: Happy Farm, Loving Ranch, and JunkEater.

Caroline raised an eyebrow. JunkEater? What the heck is that supposed to mean? She tapped it first, mainly because it was the only one that didn’t make sense.

JunkEater.

Level: 1

Function: Throw in anything you don’t need, and by tomorrow, it’ll spit out something usefulcompletely random!

Limit: One use per day.

Note: This little machine runs on luck. The prettier you are, the better your prize!

Caroline was shocked. Then, she blinked again. So, this weird machine that ate my pillow yesterday actually works?

She gasped, a grin spreading across her face. This thing turns trash into treasure! Jackpot!

Caroline couldn’t wait to find out what her pillow had turned into.

She dashed to the back of the house, where the JunkEater sat, looking exactly the same as beforequiet and still.

Caroline slowly leaned closer, studying the machine again from top to bottom. Seriously?she muttered. You finally give me a manual, and it still tells me nothing useful.

Then she spotted two buttonsone red, one green. Without thinking, she pressed the green one.

The next second, the whole machine started shaking.

Caroline jumped back in shock, her heart skipping a beat.

Raven, on the other hand, stayed completely calm. The big dog walked around the machine twice, sniffing it carefully.

The machine stopped shaking after a short time. Then, with a loud click, a lid at the front popped open.

Caroline stepped closer and froze. A whole box of bottled water slid out from the machine.

Her eyes curved into a smile. Nice! That’s a great random item.

At last, she could relax.

The storage space had claimed it could turn trash into random resources, but seeing it actually work was a huge relief.

Water was one of the most valuable things in the world now. A pillow, though? Totally useless in the apocalypse. That trade had been a bargain.

Just as she bent down to pick up the water, Raven, who had been wandering nearby, noticed a glowing red button on the machine.

The big dog tilted his head, studying it with great interest.

Then, mimicking Caroline pressing the green button earlier, he lifted his paw and pressed the red one.

The machine roared back to life.

Caroline already had one hand inside it, but her instincts from ten years of surviving the apocalypse kicked in. She yanked her hand back just in time.

The moment she withdrew her hand, the top lid slammed shut with a heavy bang.

Sweat trickled down her back. One second slower, and she could’ve lost half her body.

Meanwhile, Raven, who had just caused all that chaos, sat there like nothing happened. His serious dog face looked up at the sky, pretending to admire the view. Not an ounce of guilt.

Caroline clenched her teeth. She walked over, grabbed his ear, and scolded, Was this your doing?

Raven’s face drooped even more. He rolled his eyes dramatically at her. I don’t know what you’re talking about. I didn’t do anything.
