Chapter 58 Trouble on the Top Floor
Ivor would never miss a lively scene like this.
The moment he heard there was noise coming from the top floor, he rushed up the stairs.
He had never seen the person living up there, but from the voice, he could tell it was a young woman.
Her tone was cool and proud. It stirred a slow, restless heat inside him.
Yesterday, he’d heard someone from a lower floor had moved up. Ivor had been thinking about doing the same.
But before he made a move, there was already a loud commotion coming from the top floor today.

When he arrived, Ivor saw a huge black dog guarding the stairway. The dog bared its teeth and crouched low, ready to attack.
Ivor jumped back in shock.
The dog was nearly five feet tall when he stood on his hind legs! He had grown even bigger over the past few days, blocking the entire doorway like a horse.
“Hey! We’re all neighbors here! What’s this supposed to mean?”
He called out toward the floor, not ready to give up.
Caroline and Tyler didn’t answer. They just kept working inside.
With Raven standing there, one dog was enough to keep everyone out.
No one paid him any attention. Ivor gritted his teeth in frustration.
But just as he was about to leave, he caught a glimpse of Caroline walking past.
That figure–curved in all the right places–and those long legs wrapped in jeans made his eyes go wide. He couldn’t look away.
Maybe his stare was too obvious, because Caroline suddenly turned her head around.
When their eyes met, Ivor was certain that he was aroused.
“I’ll be damned! What a hottie!” He muttered under his breath.
“Grrr!” Raven stared coldly at Ivor, taking one heavy step forward. His massive body tensed, ready to attack at any moment.
Ivor’s face went pale. He stumbled backward, then turned and bolted. He was practically rolling down the stairs in panic. When he finally stopped one floor below, he turned and spat in Raven’s direction. “Stupid dog! One day I’ll turn you into food!”
He stormed off, but the hatred in his eyes showed one thing clearly–he was already planning something wicked.
Caroline saw it all.
She walked up to Raven, gently resting her hand on the dog’s thick neck. “Good boy,” she whispered. “You did well.”
Her gaze followed the direction Ivor had gone, her brow furrowing. Just as she suspected, this guy was no good.

Chapter 58 Trouble on the Top Floor
The storm was coming.
After working the whole afternoon, Caroline found herself more and more impressed with Tyler.

He moved with precision. His tools were complete. Those heavy iron doors, each weighing over a hundred pounds–he could lift two or three by himself!
If I can’t make him an ally, I’ll have to eliminate him. Leaving him around would be like sitting next to a ticking bomb.
She quietly made her judgment about Tyler’s combat power.
Caroline came up with a conclusion. She was certain of one thing: no matter how hard she and Raven tried, one woman and one dog together wouldn’t stand a chance against this man.
The two of them worked through the entire afternoon. They had installed two heavy iron doors at the stairway entrance. The largest and sturdiest one was fixed to the east side exit.
They even wrapped the doors with two thick chains–both found in other apartments.
“This looks much safer now,” Caroline said, rubbing her chin with satisfaction as she inspected their work.
Right then, her stomach let out a loud growl.
A second later, another growl echoed behind her–louder than hers.
Caroline turned around and saw Raven looking pitiful.
The dog’s ears drooped, and his eyes rolled upward and looked at her miserably.
That was when it hit her. Oh no! She hadn’t eaten all day, and poor Raven hadn’t either. Oh gosh, she was such a sinner!
“Ms. Sinclair,” Tyler called from his doorway, “if you don’t mind, you’re welcome to have dinner at my place.”
Caroline raised an eyebrow. “Mr. Lowland, you do realize it’s the end of the world, right? Inviting someone into your home isn’t exactly safe.”
Tyler just smiled, calm and confident. “I’ve been watching everyone in this building. I’m sure no one here can hurt me.”
