Chapter 60 A Strange Partnership

Tyler looked satisfied. He gave a small nod, and his expression was warmer than before.

Because of Caroline’s fairness, he seemed to feel closer to her.

After that, he helped her move things several times.

If before it had only been a polite habit, now it felt like he was genuinely looking out for her.

Caroline wasn’t used to it.

She didn’t realize Tyler, quiet as he was, had a clear sense of right and wrong.

The way she had split the supplies evenly and agreed to his request made him respect her more.

They kept scavenging.

Their biggest haul came from the apartment owner that runs the snack shop.

The shelves were full of imported treats, and a lot of boxes were already packed and waiting to be shipped out.

But the sudden end of the world had stopped all deliveries.

The shop belonged to an adorable young woman. Caroline couldn’t help but wonder where she was now or if she was even alive.

Caroline and Tyler split the goods evenly. Each walked away with five or six boxes of snacks.

Tyler didn’t seem the least bit excited about the snacks. His brows stayed furrowed, and his face showed nothing but mild disgust. He picked things out half–heartedly.

Caroline rolled her eyes inwardly. This guy has no idea how precious these will be in the apocalypse!

The fancy candies and chocolates could quickly restore energy and were easy to carry. These were the priceless treasures in a ruined world.

When they were done, Caroline carried the boxes to her place. She didn’t let Tyler help.

Once he turned away, she quietly stored everything inside her storage space.

By the time they’d cleared out three apartments, it was already past 8 p.m.

Caroline sighed. “Let’s call it a day. We’ve sealed off this floor anyway. No one’s getting up here tonight.”

The truth was, she was exhausted.

Her storage space was already filled with supplies. There was no need to wear herself out any further.

Tyler gave a short nod and said nothing.

Then, all of a sudden, Raven–who had been lying flat on the floor–snapped to attention. His fur stood up, back arched, and a deep growl rumbled from his throat.

That sound only came out when danger was near.

Caroline’s heart tightened. Raven was staring at the stairwell they had blocked off on the 66th floor.

“Uncle Tyler! Are you up there?”

A familiar voice echoed through the iron door.

Caroline froze, then stepped forward quickly. Through the bars, she saw the face she least wanted to see–Jonathan.

No wonder Raven’s reaction was so intense. The dog had seen Jonathan before. He remembered exactly what kind of jerk he was.

But one thing didn’t make sense. Did Jonathan just call Tyler… uncle?

“What are you doing here?”

Tyler’s cold, flat voice cut through the air like a blade.

Caroline froze for a second before instinctively stepping back.

Wait–Tyler? He’s Jonathan’s uncle?!

Before she could even say a word, a shrill, fake–sweet voice echoed from the staircase. “Oh? Now it makes sense! I wondered why Caroline suddenly decided to dump you. Turns out she’s already shacking up with another man!”

Caroline’s eyes narrowed. She shot Reese a glare sharp enough to kill. Reese instantly stumbled back two steps, her smug expression faltering.

That annoying, high–pitched voice belonged to Reese. The same two–faced woman who always tried to act like a saint while playing the victim.

“Caroline, you-” Jonathan stammered, disbelief all over his face.

He asked with difficulty, “You actually hook up with my uncle?”

Caroline looked at him and almost wanted to slap her past self. Really? This idiot? You actually fell for him? How did you let that happen?

Then she turned to Tyler. “You’re the one son who grew up overseas?”

She suddenly remembered Desmond’s infamous scandal.

Desmond had cheated. Patricia had gone full war mode with the homewrecker. In the end, that woman fled abroad with her son.

Tyler didn’t answer her question. Instead, he asked coolly, “And you’re the one from the Sinclairs?”
