Chapter 63 Cutting Ties
Caroline raised an eyebrow. That was an interesting thing to say.
Was Tyter really trying to separate himself from the Lowlands completely?

“You’re right,” Tyler said calmly. “The reason I came back to this country was to cut all ties with the Lowlands. Both the bloodline and the legal one. I never wanted any of it in the first place. I just didn’t expect the acid rain and the end of the world to hit when I got here.”
Caroline found that intriguing.
She had heard plenty about Tyler from Jonathan, especially through the tangled connections between his family and the Lowlands.
But hearing Tyler claim he returned to the country to sever ties with his father’s side–that was shocking.
Legally speaking, even as an illegitimate child, Tyler should’ve been entitled to a massive inheritance.
When Desmond died, rumors claimed he’d left Tyler a large number of shares. That alone could’ve kept him rich for the rest of his life.
What Caroline didn’t know was that the Lowlands‘ fortune had long vanished. The once–mighty family was now an empty shell.
Tyler’s mother’s side, however, was from an even more powerful family. The Lowlands‘ money never meant anything to Tyler.
Just as he said, he had nothing to do with the Lowlands. He simply couldn’t choose the family he was born into.
“Ms. Sinclair,” Tyler said, looking straight at her with a calm, honest gaze. “I didn’t know about your history with Jonathan before. If I had, I never would’ve moved to the 66th floor. But after these past few days, I think we’ve come to understand each other a little. So, I hope we can set aside all that mess. The real problem right now is survival in the apocalypse.”
To be honest, Caroline was a little moved by his speech.
She took a deep breath to steady herself, but all she could smell was the delicious aroma in Tyler’s hands.
She chuckled to herself. Tyler sure knew what he was doing–he’d brought exactly the kind of food girls loved.
Well, you can’t slap a man who’s smiling, she thought. And honestly, he wasn’t wrong about what he said. So she nodded. “Alright. Let’s talk. It’s for the best if we’re going to face what’s out there together.”
After all, they were the only two people left on this floor.
Caroline waved at Raven. He had just finished drinking, came trotting back, and stood at her side like a loyal guard. “But before I go to your place for a meal,” she said, her tone calm but firm, “I have a few conditions. First, I don’t drink alcohol. Second, I’m bringing Raven. Third, whatever food you serve, you eat it first, and I’ll decide which part you take from the plate.”
Tyler nodded slowly. “That’s perfectly reasonable.”
For a brief moment, respect flickered in his eyes.
He hadn’t expected Caroline to be this sharp and cautious.

Tyler sighed to himself. Only people like her can survive something like this apocalypse without losing their heads.
And so, for the first time, Caroline followed Tyler into his apartment.
Meanwhile, Caroline had no idea what was happening downstairs.

Jonathan and Reese had climbed all the way from the 5th floor to the 66th, only to end up empty–handed. Now, forced to go back down from the top again, both were furious.
Reese was in even worse shape. After the humiliating accident upstairs, her face burned red. Every step she took, she could feel the sticky, disgusting mess clinging to her skin.
She could feel it rubbing against her skin as she walked.
Even though she didn’t want to admit it, she knew exactly what it was–her own waste.
