Chapter 90 Evil Intentions
Caroline stepped forward and pulled the door open.
When Bethany saw Caroline’s face, she went pale and stumbled back in fear.

That instantly set people off behind her. “What’s happening up there? If you’re moving back, at least say something! You just stepped on me!”
“Yeah, quit blocking the way. Many of us want to be the first to grab supplies!”
Bethany’s heart was pounding. Caroline’s meaningful smile scared her even more.
She thought for sure Caroline had opened the door just to trick her inside and rough her up again.
“I … I’ll go in! But not alone.”
Besides, there was no chance Bethany was going to haul boxes herself. She expected others to carry everything and drop it at her place.
In the end, Bethany went in with three strong young guys and a woman everyone knew.
One of the guys was Jonathan.
He looked worse than before, like he hadn’t had water in days.
But he was tall. When people talked about moving supplies, Caroline saw Reese shove him forward. Thanks to his height, he got picked.
If not for that, Caroline never would’ve picked someone who looked half–dead.
Once the door swung open, she gave Raven a quick signal. He instantly blocked the entrance to their apartment, so nobody would try sneaking in to grab their stuff.
Tyler nodded and stood guard at the main door, keeping the crowd out. Too many people barging in would just cause chaos.
Kay stood beside Raven, watching the door too.
The three of them looked ready to throw down. A few people muttered, but when they noticed Raven was built like a small horse, the complaints stopped fast.
Still, there was always someone scheming in a crowd.

Whispers started. Some worried Caroline’s group would pocket supplies for themselves.
Caroline shot them a sharp look. “You were the ones who said to pick a few people to carry stuff up. You picked them. And now you’re whining we might steal? Hmph, you’re just looking for trouble.”
That ended the whispers.
Caroline followed the chosen group up the stairs.
When the little door opened and people started going in, they lined up and shuffled through one after another.
Jonathan ended up right behind Caroline.
That was when a nasty, rotten smell hit her nose.
She remembered Reese had crapped her pants earlier. Reese must’ve wasted most of their drinking water cleaning up.
In the past few days, whatever water they had was only for drinking–not washing.
Jonathan stank. Honestly, he smelled worse than anyone else there.
He leaned in close, his breath just as foul, and whispered, “Caroline, for old times‘ sake, can you let Reese and me live up here with you?”
Caroline almost gagged.
His smell was awful, and what he wanted was even worse.
He actually thought she’d say yes!
“What’s next? Want me to find you a cozy spot on the 66th floor? Maybe the softest bed for you and Reese?”
Caroline flashed him a sweet smile, staring him straight in the eyes.
Jonathan froze, eyes lighting up as he stammered, “N–no, anywhere’s fine. The floor below us is ruined by acid rain. The walls are falling apart. Nobody can live there!”
Caroline snorted. If that place was falling apart, they could just move to another floor. Why pick the 66th?
“Oh, and should I hand over food and water too?”
