A lot of people who wanted to be Edward’s students were from rich families. Like Edward said, the Padilla Tamily in Zephyria and the Clifford family in Pulseville were both top families in their cities

They had lots of money and a long history. People in these families were good at many things, like politics, business, and art. Each part of the family was really impressive.

Aaron wondered if any kids from those families really wanted to be Edward’s students.

He didn’t know the answer, but he knew he had really upset Edward this time. When he got home, Hugh would be really angry with him.

Aaron was sweating and panicking.

Tiffany looked at him and felt annoyed. Hugh had said Aaron was supposed to help her, but right now, he seemed completely useless in a crisis.

Tiffany quickly switched to a sweet tone and said, “Mr. West, Aaron didn’t mean any harm. He just thought I might get bored painting by myself, so he wanted to find me some friends to keep me company.”

Edward looked at Tiffany and then chuckled, “So that’s the story, huh? Well, I don’t have any other students right now. If you become my student, you’d probably still be painting alone. Maybe you’d be better off finding a teacher with a bigger class.”

Tiffany’s smile almost slipped, but she held it. “To be honest, I actually like painting by myself. When there are other people around, I can’t really get into the zone. Aaron was just worried I might feel lonely.

“Mr. West, I really admire you. It would be an honor to be your student. But even if it doesn’t work out, I won’t get discouraged. I’ll keep working hard and improving my art. Thank you for considering me, and I hope I get more chances to learn from you in the future.”

Edward finally stopped testing them and nodded with a gentle smile. “Not bad. But since your painting last time was pretty similar to Alicia’s, I’ll give you both another chance. Three days from now, each of you will submit a new piece. We’ll see whose work really stands out.”

Tiffany wanted to agree, but she had no idea how she could come up with a painting in Alicia’s style in just three days.

If she refused, she had no way to say no without looking suspicious.

She felt completely trapped. As she glanced up, she caught Alicia’s smiling gaze.

Alicia wore a soft, barely–there smile. To Tiffany, it felt scornful, mocking, and full of condescension.

Tiffany gritted her teeth and nodded. “Alright, three days from now, I’ll hand in a painting that will impress you, Mr. West.”

She had no choice but to agree for now, planning to discuss things with Hugh when she got home.

“Alright, you guys should head home. My place is pretty plain, so I won’t be having you over for dinner,”

Edward said

Tiffany, Aaron, and Maria dropped off the things they’d brought, made a bit smaller talk with Edward, and then finally headed out.

As soon as they left the courtyard, Tiffany shot Alicia a dirty look through the doorway. Alicia was husy washing the vegetables Edward had just picked, bending over the sink out in the yard.

Aaron grumbled, “Mr. West actually fell for Alicia’s act.”

Maria scoffed, “Alicia always flashes her foxy smile. It wouldn’t surprise me if Mr. West was just taken in by her

looks”

Tiffany jumped in. “Mom, could you stop talking nonsense? Let’s just head home.”

So the three of them got into the car.

Once Tiffany, Aaron, and Maria left, Edward and Alicia shared a chuckle. Alicia smiled, “Richard, you’re so naughty. Did you see how Tiffany and Aaron nearly turned ghostly pale? You really scared them.”

Edward laughed and said, “Anyone who tries to mess with you, even just a little, has to pay a price.”

Alicia chuckled, thinking, ‘Having someone spoil me like this is such a blessing.‘

Alicia made four tasty dishes and a salad, and the two of them shared a delicious meal together.

Once Alicia was done cleaning up, she headed out.

On her way home, Alicia started plotting her next steps.

Richard might have no idea just how underhanded the Lawrence family could be, but Alicia knew their tricks all too well.

With Tiffany unable to pull off another painting, Hugh would definitely make her his target.

They were bound to try and force her back, just like they did in her previous life.

Alicia knew this was inevitable. Rather than sit around worrying about when it would happen, she’d rather take control of the timing herself. At least then she’d have the upper hand.

Alicia had Richard set the same task for both her and Tiffany. She wanted to give Tiffany false hope so the Lawrence family would jump at the chance. Once Tiffany failed, they’d want to take Alicia back like before.

Alicia was okay with letting the Lawrence family take her for now, but she wouldn’t let herself be trapped

there forever.

If they tried, Alicia would make them pay.

This time, without Charles protecting them, she could even get him on her side. With Charles as her witness, the Lawrence family wouldn’t stand a chance. They’d be stuck with the kidnapping charge.

As soon as Alicia had the idea, she quickly decided to go buy a tracker.

She hurried back, thinking about calling a taxi at first. But then she realized that being alone with just a driver was too risky.

So she took the subway home instead.
