Chapter 120
In the end. Hank just pulled up the location from the tracker and headed wight to find Alicia
He couldn’t bring himself to spend money on a taxi, so he kept hopping from one bus to another changing routes again and again. Finally, he made it to the small town closest to the mountain
But just then, his phone rang again. It was the police.
7s this Mr. Hank Grant? This is the Riverdale Police Department. Do you know Ms. Alicia Lawrence” the officer asked
Hank was still wandering around the town, trying to find a ride up to the mountain. The call caught him of guard, and he froze for a few seconds before answering. Yeah, this is Hank. Altia is my classmate
“Did you go to the police station today to report that Ms. Alicia Lawrence had been kidnapped?” the officer
asked
Yeah, but they wouldn’t take the case. They said they couldn’t do anything since shed only been missing for less than 48 hours Hank replied honestly.
Mr. Grant where are you right now?” the officer asked again.
Hank glanced around and said. “I’m in Kilwood, just outside Riverdale.”
“Alright, we’ll send someone to find you right away. Just stay put the officer said.
After he hung up. Hank’s heart was racing. He thought. The cops didn’t give a damn when I went to the station before, so why are they calling me now? Is something really wrong with Alicia? No way.. Did something actually happen to her?
He found a step and plopped down, gripping his phone, eyes locked on the dot on the tracker app. The dot was still frozen in place, stuck on that mountain, not moving an inch
After waiting for over half an hour, the cops finally showed up.
A few officers found him and ushered him into the police car. One of them asked, “Mr. Grant, how did you know Ms. Alicia Lawrence had been kidnapped?
Hank answered honestly, “Alicia reached out to me the day before yesterday. She texted me and said she’d put a tracker on herself, and asked me to keep an eye on her location”
The officers exchanged glances, clearly surprised by Hank’s account. Then one of them asked. “Did Ms. Lawrence ever mention who was trying to kidnap her?”
Hank replied, “She told me to keep an eye on where she was. As soon as she arrived at the Lawrence residence, I was supposed to call the cops. So, when I saw on the tracker that she was at their place, I called the cops.”
“So, you’re telling us the Lawrence family kidnapped their own daughter?‘ the officer pressed.

The officer continued. “We got a call from the Lawrence family. They said their adopted daughter is missing. and you. Mr. Grant, were the last one to communicate with Miss Lawrence”
Hank’s heart skipped a beat. So now the cops think I did something?‘ he thought, anxiety twisting in his gut.
He swallowed nervously and said, “It’s not me. I have no motive. Why would I kidnap Alicia? She helped me out before. I owe her a lot.”
“Miss Lawrence paid for your sister’s surgery, so you figured she had money. You wanted more cash, so you decided to kidnap her,” a female officer said.
Hank shook his head frantically. “No, that’s not the case. I swear I didn’t do it. Look, here are the WhatsApp messages Alicia sent me before.”
He quickly pulled out his phone and handed it over to the officers.
The officer took his phone and, sure enough, saw the chat history between Hank and Alicia.
The officers exchanged another look and then one of them asked, “So, Mr. Grant, what are you planning to do now?”
“I want to go find Alicia,” Hank answered. “I’ve been tracking her location this whole time. She told me to call the cops once she got to the Lawrence residence, so I did, but they didn’t process it. Later, the tracker showed she was in that mountain, so I thought I’d better go look for her myself.”
The officer asked, “Mind if I see your phone?”
“Of course,” Hank replied, handing over his phone. The officer glanced at the screen and saw the tracker app running. Sure enough, Alicia’s signal was stuck right in that mountain.
The officers fell silent for a moment and then one of them said, “Alright, we’ll take you to the mountain.”
“Okay.” Hank nodded.
With that, the officers brought Hank along and drove the police car toward the mountain.
But halfway up the mountain, they saw flames suddenly erupting on the hillside. Thick smoke was pouring into the sky. The blaze was fierce and out of control.
The officers immediately called the fire department to report the fire.
Hank stared at the spot burning on the hillside. It was exactly where the tracker showed Alicia’s location.
Hank was fidgeting restlessly, wringing his hands as he kept urging the cop behind the wheel, “Can you speed up a bit? Please!”
“We’re going as fast as we can, Mr. Grant. Sit tight and let the driver focus,” the cop in the passenger seat cautioned.
