Even as he asked, Henry was certain Alicia wouldn’t blame him. Once she learned who he really was, she’d probably fall even harder for him.

As Alicia listened to him, she was just thinking what an idiot he was. She’d been perfectly clear, and he was too dense to get it. He was still showing off who he was.

She let out a soft laugh, saying coolly, “I don’t blame you. After all, today you finally showed me your true colors.”

“I knew you wouldn’t hold it against me. So, does this mean we can just get back together?” Henry was about to let out a sigh of relief, but suddenly, a thought struck him.

His face went pale as he muttered, “Wait, you only found out who I am today. So you didn’t know he was my uncle? You weren’t using my name to get close to him, were you?”

His voice wavered with anger and confusion. Grabbing her wrist, he demanded, “How do you know my uncle?”

Alicia felt the pressure on her wrist, nearly breaking it from his grip. She yanked her arm free and snapped, “Let go of me.”

“Tell me, what exactly is going on between you and my uncle? Why is he letting you stay at his place–did you get together with him? No wonder you can’t even stand to look at me now.

“You found someone better, didn’t you?” Henry’s eyes burned with fury. “Alicia, how could you do this? How could you betray me like that?”

Alicia tore her wrist away and slapped him across the face. “Don’t act like I owe you anything. We’re done. Who I’m with now is none of your business. Stop bothering me.”

With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Henry standing there with a swollen cheek, unable to process what had just happened.

Alicia was already gone, but Henry just stood there in a daze, staring at the crowd passing by, feeling numb to the world. He didn’t even know how long he’d been standing there, shivering until he was frozen to the bone.

He wandered back home, looking utterly lost. Patricia was looking through photos with the housekeeper. Spotting Henry, her face immediately brightened. “Henry, come here!” she waved.

But Henry ignored her completely and walked upstairs.

Patricia’s smile faded. She put the photos aside and hurried over, her brow furrowed. “Henry, what’s going on? Didn’t you hear me calling you?”

Henry glanced back over his shoulder, and that was when Patricia finally spotted the red slap mark on his face. “Who did this to you?” she gasped.

Henry clenched his jaw, itching to tell his mom everything–how Alicia dumped him and ended up as his uncle’s sugar baby. But he just couldn’t bring himself to say it.

He was even considering confronting Charles face–to–face, to demand why he had to choose Alicia. Charles knew she was his girlfriend. With Charles’s status and wealth, he could have any woman he wanted.

“Say something, please, Henry! What happened? You have to tell me. I’m worried sick about you,” Patricial said, her heart aching as she gently traced the red mark on his face.

But Henry shrank away from her hand and just collapsed into her arms instead. “Mom, I feel awful,” he muttered.

Patricia was seriously worried. Henry had been pampered since he was a child. He had it all–family status, good looks–and everything had always come easily to him. The most difficult thing he had probably ever experienced was failing a test.

Thinking back to when he was a kid, he’d been really upset after failing a test, but he never cried like this. He just moped around for a bit, and then did way better next time.

But this time, he was actually in tears, and kept saying how miserable he was.

Patricia blurted out, “Henry, what’s wrong? Talk to me, sweetheart. Please, tell me what’s going on.”

Henry opened his mouth, but in the end, he just stayed silent. He still wanted to get back together with Alicia, and if he told his mom now, she’d probably hate Alicia even more.

But really, what mattered most was that Patricia had always resented how Samuel handed over the company to Charles instead of Henry’s dad, who was the eldest and, in her eyes, should have inherited the Yates family’s legacy.
